Guest Finn
Thanks for the welcome Finn... If you will go back and read my posts, you'll notice I did not "slam" anyone. I question the idea of baiting and that is it. I tried to make some comparisons that were not understood so...no biggie. I hunt in Southern Illinois, and yes, there are crops plnted under normal routine agricultural practices. The thing is, every farm has them. One cornfeild no different than the thousands of others. My buddy is from Iowa and dogged me for years about baiting. In his area, there was corn field after corn field and he could pattern where they were traveling with little effort. He told me to "just pattern them". I finally got him up north and we walked our property for a whole day, after which, he said he understood why I would use bait. No kidding, I think it would be a whole lot easier to have someone else plant a food source and all I have to do is find the right tree to put my stand. Baiting has to be constant to be effective. My uncle only gets out every 2-3 days to bait for me and we can only put out 2 gallons a day in Wis. The deer aren't coming there like clock work and the bucks hardly show. Sure, I see does and fawns, but ask Chrud, even a doe isn't guaranteed. (I'm in the Air Force and live 1100 miles from my hunting area) How about you come up to Northern Wisconsin's Chequamegon National Forest which is a few miles north of where I hunt and very similar country. Score there with a bow without any food sources, no routine agricultural practices anywhere, then I would like to shake your hand. There are guys up there that do it and I certainly admit they are better hunters than me. The welcome was sincere if are on this site to chat with other people who enjoy the outdoors legally in their area. If you are here to put down folks who do things differently from you, ArcheryTalk is the perfect site for you.
wtnhunt
Not sure if I have seen that particular show. Falsely endorsing products is a bit of turn off to me, which sounds like may be the case here. Some of the big name pro hunters in my opinion seem to become sellouts when they endorse products they may not even really use just for the sake of making a buck. Far as baiting, if it is legal, I dont guess I really have a problem with it.
