Guest bucknutt
For your original plan i'm not sure, but I have a big bag target, I think i gave $50 for it a couple years ago. I've since replaced the cover a couple times and the only stuffing in it is old cotton sheets and bed spreads. i built a couple more targets with the same material, you can get an actual bag at Sportsmans and stuff it as full as you can get it with sheets and comfortors and sew or staple the top shut. deerkillr777
so acually stucffing old sheets towels and stuff liek that in it would be better then the feed bags
Guest KS_jon
Filll the bag up with plastic. I had an old duffle bag filled with plastic grocery bags and any other plastic I could find and it works great. Ive also filled a large cardboard box with as many layers of cardboard i could get to fit, and that works too.

elkoholic
My favorite cheap target begins with a burlap bag which is then filled with shrink wrap. The shrink wrap can be obtained at almost any store which receives their product stacked on pallets. They use shrink wrap or plastic wrap to hold the boxes together on the pallet. Most of the time if you ask them to save it for you instead of throwing it away it is yours for the asking. Just be sure to go back in a reasonable amount of time (ask) to get it. It works amazingly well, is very light weight, and lasts for years. You can hang it between a couple of trees or make a frame for it (old lawn swing frames work great). My original target is more than ten years old and is due for a new burlap bag this year, which will make the third time I've stuffed it into a new bag. CrAzYCoYoTe
A cardboerd box filled with sand or dirt works just fine . Dont expect it to be all clean and nice afterwards though.
deerkillr777
i got it all done and filled with with feed bags see when u own chickens and u buy atleast 5 or 6 bags of feed a week u got lots of feed bags and we normally throw them away but i decided ot hang onto a few and make me a target i didnt have enoguh to make it the full size of a 80lbs feed bag but i got about 3/4 of it full i plan on making a few more i dont have acess ot burlap bags or i would try that. i might have ot go to the local stares around here and see if i can get soem shrink wrap for my other targets i think this works jsut as good as the bag target i shot at when i go up to the pro shop i go to and shoot nate
BKE
deerkiller, 2 ideas for you. The next time you go to the feed store ask the manager or owner if there is any product that they get in that is packaged in burlap. It's a feed store, they usually get something and then ask if they'll save you some. Also, if you have a carpet store close by go ask if they have any scraps of old carpet and carpet backing that you can get. Their dumpster is probably full of it because when they put in new carpeting they usually have trimmings left and also the old carpet they replaced which they have to get rid of. It works great and with those 2 sources of material you should never have to pay for a sack target again. Good luck
deerkillr777
thanks for those ideas and i got a carpet store close by and i also go to the feed store i might have ot go for a ride today and ask them and see what is said i have only bought 1 target and that was a 4x4 block but i dont think i will be buying anymore

magnatecsteve
Almost anything will work as filler. I have used feed sacks filled with shrink wrap, the factory I worked at changed rolls before they actually ran out and let me take them. They worked great. I have used old clothes and rags too, but they get heavy when wet. I have the best set-up now. There is a discount store near me that sells large coffee bean burlap sacks for 99 cents each, and I just happen to be the leadman at a foam packaging plant, and I can get all of the scrap foam I need. I can even get 1/2" plank foam.
