Strut10
Lately, the term "OTPG" has generated much interest (and mail in my PM box). As new members join the forums, they may not be privy to some of the site's most valuable information. This post is meant to enlighten the confused as to the purpose of the OTPG. The OTPG (Off The Porch Gang) is a fraternal (but girls can join too) society of the Realtree.com forums' most hardcore and serious shooters. Members of the OTPG insist upon living their shooting lives on the cutting edge of firearm performance rather than sitting on the porch or in leather recliners, sipping hot cocoa and wishing to be there (you will find members of the widely strewn SCOPE club on the porch and in the recliners). OTPG members embrace the magnum and live life among fire-breathing, foot/lb, velocity monsters each and every day. To qualify for OTPG membership is really quite simple: 1: You must be a registered member, in good standing, of the Realtree Forums. 2. You must own and shoot a centerfire, magnum rifle cartridge or cenerfire pistol cartridge (in a handgun) .429" or larger. (some exceptions without formal "magnum" designation will be considered i.e. Rigby, Nitro Express, etc) 3. You must have a dislike for hot cocoa. 4. All members must agree to semi-memorize and fully embrace the Gang Creed: "If a gun can do it......a magnum can do it faster, flatter, harder and farther and better!! Bigger, faster, better, more!! 5. (The previously "Unwritten Rule") Before any member takes this whole thing too awfully serious, he must bear in mind that the OTPG/SCOPE rivalry is all good-natured and in fun. NOBODY is serious here. All memberships are contingent on the ongoing review by the board of directors. Public displays of "hot cocoa" are strictly forbidden!! So.........you see......there is really not a cloud of mysticism surrounding our highly esteemed group. Just a simple code of shooting standards. hangunnr
Whoo hoo! Come on out to Cali and we can blast a few caps with this toy! Better yet.... You bring that 408 sweetness here to Indiana and I'll run it out to Penna with me this fall and Strut and I will give it a real OTPG evaluation. While you're here I'll treat you to a range session with the 458 Win Mag pistol. hangunnr

CrAzYCoYoTe
OK so if I own a gun that'll make a grown man cry after shooting it then I can be in?? If so then can it be a WSM or WSSM?? Oh and could you tell me the lightest recoiled magnum there is out there i was wondering the other day with one of my buddies and it seemed like a good time to ask. wtnhunt
OK so if I own a gun that'll make a grown man cry after shooting it then I can be in?? LOL, not necessarily. Not a member myself, but do shoot magnum loads from a 12 gauge here which produces a bit of recoil, and it does not qualify. Oh and could you tell me the lightest recoiled magnum there is out there i was wondering the other day with one of my buddies and it seemed like a good time to ask. Lightest recoiling centerfire mag is probably the .223 wssm. Would guess after that would be the .243 wsm. Have seen where there are custom AR's available in the .223 wssm, and the recoil on a heavy barrel AR in that caliber would be virtually nil. Both those calibers would most certainly have considerably less recoil than a 12 gauge shooting 3 inch loads or a .50 cal ml shooting magnum loads, or even a standard .270 or 30-06 for that matter. Not sure either of those mags would get you in their club though, if that is what you are looking for.
