Remington M770??

Recommended Posts

Its a new rifle from Remington (an upgraded version of the M710) and I was wondering if anyone has shot or owns one of these rifles because im thinking of buying one for myself.

I like the price tag too. $450.00 MSRP.

I checked one out at Dick's Sporting Goods the other day and thought it was just okay. I personally have decided against either lower end Remington (710 or 770) and will either get the Savage or Stevens.

Actually for that price your almost to a 700. If youre shelling out that much hold out for the better model. If you need a scope package hit a gun show. A remington 700 (used) can be had for that price. You would be MUCH better off.

When you say "almost" what do you mean? I haven't been to a Walmart yet to look in person but from what I'm seeing, the 700s start around $600.

I like the 770 for numerous reasons. comes with a pre-adjusted scope,detachable magazine,its a Remington,and

its only around $450. I have a Remington model 700 chambered in .223 for coyotes, very reliable gun. But according to Remington its based on the 700 so bieng its "lower end" as you put i really dont care a Remington is a Remington. Check it out here http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_770.asp

Im talking used but that still very much something to consider. The 700 is a great rifle. Buying used wouldn't phase me at all. Just be sure and pull the bolt and look down the rifling. If its sharp with no visible pitting you should be fine.

I was at a gun show a while back looking for a new Rifle. I picked up a 700 with a scope. The guy had $460 on it. It had a few minor bruises on the stock but nothing to serious. He obviously wouldn't budge on price but for the money it was 100% worth it. I ended up passing it up for a Savage 110 in .270 because I got a decent deal.

I kick myself now. Regardless, the used 700's can be found for around the $450 mark. I wouldn't expect to get one much cheaper than that but its WELL worth the price difference IMHO. If you can and will settle for an ADL (no floor plate) you can find the 700's all day long, used of course, for that price or even around $400. In most cases those will have a scope already on them too.

How often do you have gun shows in your area?

Wal Mart here had NEW model 700 adl's at around $469 last time I was in there, and those were with a laminated stock. They had some older model 700's still new though that they were clearancing for under $400 not too long back. I am curious where you are seeing these model 700's for $600?

We have a bi-yearly gun show around in my area. I havent never been to it though. Most ppl around here say not to because you can get a crappy gun and not be able to return it becuz you may never see that person again in your life so thats one of the resons why I feel a little uncomfortable buying at a gun show.

Just know what youre looking at. If you buy a bolt gun be sure and pull the bolt and check the barrel. Look things over REALLY well and know what youre buying.

Gun shows arent nearly as bad of a deal as you may think. Ive bought several guns from Guns shows and have never had a Lemon. Just make sure and look out for yourself.

I would. Was in wal mart here just this past Friday, they had a remington model 700 adl with a black synthetic stock for just under $400. The regular counter guy was not there for me to ask what calibers they had it in, stocked in the back.

Their special order catalog lists the sps with a stainless barrel at $635, here is a link http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4665579. I believe bass pro and some other national retailers also usually run sales on guns late summer to early fall. Might keep your eyes open. You should be able to find a new 700 adl with a synthetic stock in the $400-$450 price range, do not understand why you would pay to buy a used gun for what you could get a new one for:(

Floor plate?

The sps I believe does have a floor plate, the adl does not. There is a kit, comes with a mag and all the neccesary parts to add a floor plate to an adl for around $80. Cabelas carries it, here is a link http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0024317226539a&navCount=2&podId=0024317&parentId=cat20807&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat602007-cat20807&catalogCode=IH&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20807&hasJS=true

I'd advise against that 770. All remingtons are NOT remingtons. They are importing the Spartan line from Russia and it's junk. The 710 had recalls and I've never heard ANYONE who really knows rifles say anything good about them. Now they are selling the new 770 since the 710 was a flop. I've not fired or held one but I bet it's not much better than the 710. I guarantee that scope is LOW LOW end as well. Preadjusted???? Thats just downright irresponsible to take that thing hunting without checking it 1st. In fact I bet they have a disclaimer as to how "adjusted" it actually is.

If you want to save money buy a Savage. Or like others said get into a 700, but think twice about a brand new style of bargain gun.
