Guest Ironhorse
I'm going to Canada this October for some duck and goose hunting. I need to pick up a layout blind and am looking for suggestions. I looked at Averys and Cabelas' models. Any thought would be appreciated. double_drop
I guess I am fond of the powerhunter and ground force. i haven't used my ground force yet but am going to for sure alot this fall. I have had a powerhunter for 2 years and love it but tired of having the gun on the outside of the blind and having to flip the top up all the time. That is the ONLY two bad things about the power hunter. It is the lowest layout blind on the market hands down. Here are a few pics of the ground force and the powerhunter. power hunter power hunter on the right finishers are the other 2. Here is the ground force
quackmaster4
I haven't bought one yet, but I hunted out of a couple in Missouri. I believe the ones we used were Gooseview Destroyers; supposed to be top of the line. The bottom is a sled, so you can use it to haul stuff while you're walking in. I can't imagine being more comfortable, our whole group dozed off at one time or another. That might not be saying much; I've dozed off sitting in on a stool in standing corn. Bow Hunter Derek
I would not recommend the Cabela's blind. I've not owned one, but have looked at them first hand and know several that have owned them. The frames fall apart, the material is thin an tears easy, and the material shines bad. Stick with one of two brands ... Avery/GHG or Final Approach. I've not owned an Avery/GHG blind, but they are nice and well built. I have owned several Final Approach blinds and currently own two F.A. SUB blinds. I can't recommend these blinds enough. Low profile, quick to set up, fold down reasonably, and built heavy duty. Mud them up good, brush them in, and disappear. There are two FA blinds in this picture, good luck finding them. Results of a mudded & brushed in SUB. huntinguide
i use the powerhunter when lower profile is needed, but we use the Finishers for guided hunts they are a little bigger, but more comfortable i think. We use a 15ft closed trailer and just leave them up.
Guest realtrhunter
I have a power hunter and liked it at first but I have gotten tired of the flip top. I would look at the Final Approach blinds. I cant remember the name of their low profile blind right now but I think that will be the next one I purchase. huntinguide
the powerhunter is hard too get used to the fliptop and the mesh, am i the only one or did it make anyone else dizzy while looking through and trying to focus on birds. YOu must be the only one. I will still take my powerhunter over my ground force for low profile and hiding ability. I like the flip top because you can move around under it all the time and watch the birds. The only reason I bought the ground force was because I am getting lazier and just feel like flipping doors. Guest Ironhorse
I appreciate all of your feedback. What are the top couple features I should be looking at on these blinds? Thanks
Bow Hunter Derek
The features you are looking for all depend on your hunting style. I like frame blinds, in that I like to be able to move inside the blind and have room to put my stuff. I don't like the doors to lay on top of me, just my preference. I don't need mine to fold up small either, so I don't mind a full frame blind that doesn't collapse all that much. Some guys need the blind to fold up small, so that becomes a priority. Some guys want the lowest profile as possible. It all depends on how you hunt and what you need. Personally, I've had great luck with Final Approach. I've owned one of the original Eliminators for many years and currently own two SUB's. I like them. The work well for me. Relatively low profile, fold down medium sized, and roomy enough for me to move. Nothing wrong with Avery (GHG) blinds either.
