Revhard...I hunted with IMB in Missouri in October 2005. The dates I hunted were 10/26 thru 10/31 but I had other plans for November that year so those dates were my only option. Yep, I stayed an extra day since the action really started toward the end of the hunt. :D

At the beginning of that hunt mature bucks were mostly just checking scrapes in the late afternoon. During the last couple of days they were either looking for does, following does or chasing. If it were me, I'd opt for the early November dates if I were going back there this year. ;)

BTW, I went back and checked my hunting journal for that hunt. I saw 6 mature bucks during that 6 day hunt. 4 of those were seen during the 5th and 6th day with the biggest (150 class buck) on the 6th morning that was too far for a shot but sure left me rubber legged in the tree when he went out of sight. The other 2 mature bucks were seen on the first day. One at 4:50 pm moving through the woods checking scrapes and the other right at dark checking scrapes on the edge of a bean field that I missed on the 6th afternoon while he was following a doe.

I live and hunt in MO. I would pick the week of Nov 5. It seems like the rut is really hot right before our rifle season. However, I live in the central part of MO so things might start up a little earlier the farther north you get. I'm sure you will have good luck either week. Shoot Straight.

what is the "Indian Mound spot".. and why do you say do this.. I have to stop of in Illinois and talk with Tony about coming out the week after my hunt. He has kinda offered me a job(trial position) as a guide in the Illinois outfit. but I will ask him if you tell me what this is about....

The indian mound spot is one of Darren's secret spots in Missouri and where I missed a big one on the 6th day of the hunt I talked about. I also saw 2 other mature deer there including the 150 class buck I mentioned on the last 2 afternoon hunts before I had to go home to regroup for my Iowa trip. As of 2 years ago they didn't have a stand hung there so you have to have a climber to hunt it. The indian mound is located in a funnel where 2 bottoms come together but it doesn't get hunted very much since there's not a stand hung in there.

I presume you're talking about Tony May when you mentioned Tony. I spent 8 days with Tony in Illinois last year and he guided 2 of us for a couple of days in Missouri in 2005. Good luck with the guide job opportunity.
