HarvDog
...of around $1500 (hypothetically )...what 30.06 or 270 rifle would you purchase and what scope would you put on it?

Well I have several 06s & a .270 already. Hypothetically speaking if someone were to give me 1500$ to spend on a rifle I'd buy a Tikka 300WSM or 308 & I'd put a Zeiss scope on it. Tominator
Remington 700 and a Zeiss.
wtnhunt
Remington 700 and a Zeiss. Seems like a good combination there. Either that or a browning a bolt and either a zeiss or a nikon monarch.
iron buck
Ruger M77 416 Rigby................if I could get it used I may have enough $$$$ left to get a Fixed 2.5x leupold scope. JUST enough gun fot those charging ground hogs!!!
Texan_Til_I_Die
Figure $1000 for a good Kahles or Zeiss scope, that "only" leaves $500 for the rifle. I think I'd go with a Savage stainless with the Accutrigger.
doubleA
let's see, I would opt for the new Swarovski Z6 1-6x42 but it would only leave me about $35 for a rifle
hangunnr
If I were in the market for an '06 and had a $1500 budget I'd wander over to Gun Broker and buy this Rem 700 SPS for $570. Then I'd go to the optics section of the site and buy this Leupold 4.5X14 for $630. The rest of the cash would buy a nice mount, rings and a set of reloading dies. Any money that is left would be put into ammo. hangunnr

VermontHunter
If I had a budget it would be a easy thing.... I already have the Browning Stainless Stalker ,, she has a Tasco World Class Scope mounted on her,,,, I would prefer a nice Nikon or Leapould Scope .. I told ya it would be easy for me ...

Jeramie
THANK YOU .... :) The Tasco is doing it's job,, but I make NO mistake in thinking that it's the quality of a high end Scope ... Do you have a Bass Pro in your area? If you do look into the Redhead scopes. I have the Tasco scopes too but honestly the redhead are very Comparable in price and way better IMHO. I have a couple now and will never buy another Tasco. BP also carries Tasco but if you hold two side by side the Redhead is far more clear. Give er a try.... VermontHunter
I don't have a BP anywhere even remotely close to me,,, but I think I just may try one of the RedHead Scopes,, you aren't the first to say that they are far better than a Tasco ... Thanks for the INPUT ... I appreciate it .. :)

Nut
I believe that I could squeeze in a Tikka with a Swarovski 1" A-Line ,(of course it would be the lowest cost one). But if I had the $1500 there would be ladder stands and a new bow bought instead.
too_pointer
I would go with a Tikka in .270, even though I already have a .270. I have never owned a high price scope, mostly Nikons, which I do love. A Zeiss or Swarovski, would make me smile ;):D too_
wtnhunt
Not sure what it runs yet, but I am really thinking I like the looks and like what I have read on TC's new bolt action rifle the icon. Might very well be my next rifle purchase, if they are not too outrageous.
