Guest ronin
I just got done sighting in one of my new Chey Tac's. First off, the break in period for the barrel is big business and time consuming. It goes a long way towards maintaining serious accuracy, however. Cleaning with Hoppes, WD40, Sweets, WD40, JB, and WD40 in that order between each shot for 30 shots...needless to say, I shot four times today. I bucked tradition with this gun and put on a Tasco Super Sniper 20X scope on it. I had intended on buying either the Nightforce or a Leupold but changed my mind after reading various articles on the Super Sniper. I figured I couldn't go wrong with the cost and if it was lousy...no big loss. The military contract SS was impressive and it is the only scope MFR that I found who specifically mentions handling big guns like the .50 BMG. I bore sighted the scope at 100 yards and was zeroed on the third shot. My initial impression of this scope is that it is pretty tough and the turrets are quite nice with solid clicks. The clarity was excellent. Frankly, I could not tell the difference between my VXIII and the SS. The only major difference I saw was in hours of darkness. The VXIII had better light gathering capability. I still have to play with this thing for a while for a serious review, but so far, it is impressive. hangunnr
From what I've seen written of the Super Sniper scopes the trashco version isn't as good as the original SS. I've looked at the 10X42 with the side focus but ended up going a different direction. Hopefully your's is well made. I feel your pain with the break in shootin. I'm in the process of getting my 300WSM Xp100 ready. I've got a total of 6 rounds down range. It's a pita, but worth it in the end. hangunnr
Guest ronin
Hmm, I found little in print knocking it. Most everything I read was pretty good. Like I said, not much of a loss if it doesn't work and I was curious. So far, it looks pretty well made.
hangunnr
I see in your post that you linked to the SWFA site. The SWFA SS scopes are I beileve different than the tasco scopes. If I remember correctly tasco first introduced them but stopped when they went belly up several years ago. Another manufacturer then picked up the line and the name. I've heard nothing but good about the SWFA SS scopes. There are quite a few guys over at Snipers Hide using them. They are likely the best bang for the buck. If I'm wrong on this feel free to correct me. I'm working with a fading memory these days..... hangunnr
Guest ronin
It is SWFA but I think Tasco still owns the rights. I could be wrong about that, too. Regardless, I like this one so far but I have not put it to the long range test yet.

Not sure on the different lines, if any were excluded, but believe tasco was bought by bushnell if I remember right.
