HarvDog
Make sure you check to see if the gasket from the old oil filter is not still attached to the engine BEFORE installing the new oil filter. It's pretty awesome how quickly the oil shoots out when you start the vehicle but WOW! It certainly makes one heck of a mess!!!:eek:

I think God should have made all men mechanics, with a vast knowledge of these little do's and dont's You'd think that 2 gaskets are better than one, wouldn't ya

Oh...there would have been no "line" of oil. It was a FLOOD!!! However, I did shut it down right away!
MUDRUNNER
Yep,it happens. It's always a good idea to check the old filter and make sure the gasket didn't stick to the base...I learned this from my days at Valvoline.
Tominator
Never have done that. I'm usually too busy cursing the fact that I can't get the old one off.
OJR
That is one thing that I have never done! I have changed a lot of oil in my lifetime and guess I lucked out! I always checked the gaskets before installing the new filter! Now, I have the oil changed at the dealer! Too much hassle with changing it myself! WIwhitetailhunter
Guarenteed you'll only do it once. At least in my case, I haven't done it a second time!:D:eek::D
AdvantageTimberLou
Now, I have the oil changed at the dealer! Too much hassle with changing it myself! Same here, I work on machines all day long with testing suspension parts, then work on a race car at night but when it comes to changing my own oil, just easier and cheaper to take it to a oil change place. Much easier!

Shaun_300
LMAO! Been there done that Harv! I've only done that once, from then on I'd reach up and make sure the old gasket came off. An easy way to do it is to just look at the old filter and see if the gasket is on it.

An easy way to do it is to just look at the old filter and see if the gasket is on it. Usually by this time, I'm covered in oil and can't see because I have oil in my eyes so I'm feeling my way through each step. I'll try to keep this in mind though. I really do enjoy changing my own oil and working on my vehicles.
