bowin_in_illinois
I got the info sheet in the mail the other day for the 2007 youth weekend. ...and what did it say on the top? 2007 RESIDENT YOUTH EITHER-SEX DEER PERMIT ...it's about time! It's always been "doe only" up to this point. I always thought it was ridiculous because the point is to get young kids interested in hunting. Imagine a kid out for his/her first hunt, and a nice buck walks within range and you have to tell them they can't shoot it. That would discourage me if i was a kid. So kudos to the Illinois DNR! This is a great change!
Sam16
Thats great news! I cant help it, but i think Illinois DNR is pretty awesome. They dont seem to disappoint me very often.
USAFbowhunter
That happend to my nephew last year. He got the youth tags for doe only and he had 7 nice sized buck come under his stand. It didn't discourage him at all though. He ended up getting a nice doe and was really happy with that.
toddyboman
What was the reasoning behind doe only?? Thats a crazy rule. Glad to hear they changed it for the kids!!!
8ptbuckpa
Here in PA we have a youth season that is linked with the last 3 days of the early muzzleloader season which is doe only. I only did the youth season once. now I archery hunt during the week and just use the muzzleloader on saturday. This is the first year I can't do the youth season:)
