OUTDOORLIFE3
Hey guys, I got my girlfriend into duck and geese hunting this past season and I am trying to buy her an easy call that she can learn very quickly...do any of you guys have a recommindation on a call??? What do you guys think about a flute call?
double_drop
A flute call would work but I would recommend maybe a buck gardner hammer 2 short reed with the instructional tape and everything. Works very well for beginner callers.
quackmaster4
Like was said, a flute call would work. If it were me, I'd get her a medium priced short reed and a good instructional DVD. Personal reccommendations would be either a walnut Winglock shortreed or a winglock Longneck. Both are fairly easy to learn on. New they are pretty fair priced, you can pick them up used prety cheap. I bought a walnut short reed last summer for $30. A good DVD is Shawn Stahl's Honker Talk. It tells you how to get the sounds you want, and helps teach when each should be made. huntinguide
if you can get her on a short reed youll be ahead of the game, kindof like learning on a 5 speed vs. and auto. For a great beg. short reed go with the sean man shorty express, runs about 40 bucks
dogdoc
Illusion ShortReed---easy call to blow that comes with a great instructional CD for less than 30 bucks at Bass pro.
Strut10
I'd get her a Big River flute. The short reed calls definitely have "more goose" in them. But they can be a booger to get on to. I can run pretty much any game call of any kind that I choose to pick up. But I have a Glynn Scobey short reed that still bamboozles me years after I bought it. I took it back and had Glynn run it for me on two separate occasions......just so I knew it was working right. It was. Anybody can pick up a Big River and be hailing, clucking, double clucking and doing laydowns in minutes.
double_drop
The only draw back with a flute like the long honker is it takes ALOT of air to blow.
Strut10
The only draw back with a flute like the long honker is it takes ALOT of air to blow. That is true. In REALLY cold weather it can be a big problem.
