kraabel2003
Can you lime and fertilise after you spread the seed without hurting anything? thanks
wtnhunt
I usually fertilize at planting, really liming needs to be done well before planting for it to do any good.
huntinguide
ya liming is just to build the ph or acidity in the soil, i fert then seed right on top of it.
Tominator
Like these guys said, best done before planting whilst prepping the land. I'd wait to see what comes up, then adjust.
Guest luckyman4
The direct answer to your question is "Yes, you CAN lime and fertilize after spreading seed without HURTING anything." For a variety of reasons, you SHOULD add lime and fertilizer before disking or plowing so that they get into the soil at the root zone where they are needed. Here's a link to a page that has pretty good info about that: http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/compost/452-703/452-703.html Consider foodplots to be forage crops in a pasture situation and you'll see what the recomendations are. One word of caution about topdressing fertilizer is that over application can cause burn. If I am spreading fertilizer on an established plot, I like to do so before a rain, so that the pellets can dissolve and get into the soil as soon as possible.
