Griz
Do they really hurt all that bad when getting one... Ok...Here's the deal...We were all sitting around talking about Tattoos and I said I had always thought about getting a deer skull with 2 arrows under it. Well these folks know me and how I am about needles...Yeah wimpy when it comes to needles...LOL... So anyway I was told that if I got one that they would pay for it no matter how big or small if they could video me getting it...Now, that may to funny to watch... I can see it now...15 full grown guys holding me down telling me to relax...LOL... So anyway, now I'm thinking, Hmmmmm... What kind of pain am I expecting to encounter here. Can yall tell me... And be honest to...
Guest Hunter36
depends on where you get it done.... I have two #1 a buffalo skull on my upper back just below the neckline and #2 a lion head on my right side rib cage. I fell asleep on #1 didnt hurt at all. #2 was alittle uncomfortable it felt like someone scratching me with sand paper on sunburn. It was uncomfortable but didnt really hurt. I say go for it but remember you do have it for the rest of your life more than likely.

okiedog
Dale, I pretty much have three tattoos. I got the first one on my shoulder several years ago. I kinda regreted it beacuse I got it just to get one. A couple of years ago I got a tattoo on my upper arm to reprensent my son of two eagle feathers for my son and I. Last year I got the one I had done on my soulder covered up with a deer skull and deer tracks that I had drawn. I am very pleased with the ones that I have now. Do they hurt....... Yes! The cover up I had done took 3 1/2 hours and I was close to my breaking point. The first 10-15 mins are the worst, then it starts to gets numb. Unless they last a long time then they really get to you. I was always told to pinch myself in the area you want tattooed. Like the top of your arm isn't that bad, but if you pich under your arm its worse. that why so see alot of people with arm bands that dont go all the way around their arm. njbowhunter27
the arms and legs are not bad. It feels like someone is rubbing a pencil eraser against your skin.

LifeNRA
Just don't drink any alcohol before you go in! You bleed more! LOL! Besides the area that is being worked on gets numb after a few minutes of zapping.

Guest Mountain_Dragon
I have a large oriental dragon on my upper left arm, and most of it wasn't too bad, an irritating sting more than anything. Two spots though nearly had me crawling out of the chair. The tip of the tail is down near my elbow and that part was pretty bad, and one of the front feet dips down towards my armpit, and that's the one that nearly had me crawling on the floor. My advice is to make sure you pick a design that you really like, and make sure you research your artist to assure that he is in fact a good artist and that he runs a clean operation. As others have said, a tattoo is forever, so you don't want to pick a design that you may not like later or an artist that does a bad job. TreeWalker
Griz, you can simplify it by making a doctors appointment and get some prescription strength benzocaine or lidocaine.....numbing stuff, that you simply rub onto the skin before you have it done.......basically get's rid of any sensation for several hours..... The tat i have took just over 3 hours, and the worst pain for me was when the tatoo'ist had to stop because his hand was cramping up, and then he would have to start again.....when he had to restart, it was absolute murder.... TreeWalker
I know several people that have gotten the doctors prescription for it.....no sense in going through the pain if you don't need to, right ?!?! LOL I don't know why us guys think we need to go through the pain like it is a right of passage, LOL From what I understand the bonier the location the more painful it is.....ankles, wrists, back of the neck, lower back and rib cages are the worst from what I have heard.... Bachflock
I got a tatoo back in some, ahhh... wilder days. Had a lot of detail work. Yes, it smarted. Nothing that wasn't bearable. Bled some also. I'd gone to a different artist if I were to have it redone. I think the guy could have done better work. IF you aren't 110% positive a tatoo is what you want, don't do it. Swamphunter
I regrettably have two scars....I mean tattoos, and they didn't hurt that much. I liked the comment about feeling like a pencil eraser being rubbed on your skin. That is about the most accurate description I have ever heard. Think it over good first Griz and if its what you want...wait another month and then decide again. They are forever..... Swampy
