njbowhunter27
What does everyone think of this new law where you have to buy a seperate permit to shoot a buck now. This is going to get expensive. gun 27.50 bow 31.50 bow permit 28.00 per zone bow buck permit 28.00 muzzloader permit 28.00 muzzloader buck 28.00 gun permit 28.00 gun buck 28.00 pheasant stamp 40.00 fort dix permit 28.00 thats $255.00 if you only buy 1 zone permit for each season. I wonder what they will think of next.
njbowhntr
NJ has figured that they can not outlaw hunting. So they are just trying to make it so expensive that you just have to quit. I think it is ridiculous. But I guess for now I have to keep paying and figure a way to work with different groups to get this changed in the future. Guest john9
Hello NJ Hunters, This will be my 1st hunting season, and I made my 1st attempt at pre season scouting today. I live in NJ, and there is a 3,000 acre wildlife management area about 20 min from my house, (Black River WMA). I walked down a few "trails" of knee high grass and weeds, surrounded by fields of grass about 5 feet high. In between the trees where bushes and vines, ect. It was impossible to see more then 20 yards in any direction, and impossible to move except on these trails. I did see 2 deer running throught the fields of 5 foot high grass. NJ bow season starts in Sept, long before the Fall clears out the woods. I can not imagen how anyone could hunt or get a clean shot in this overgrown mess. I could not even find a tree that looked good for a tree stand. What do you do during the early season? Any experiance or advice on WMA's would be of great help. toddyboman
WOW thats way to much money to hunt in your own state. What is the deer population like in NJ?? Seems like most states the deer population is really high so tags are cheap so you can take more deer, seems to be the opposite for you guys in NJ...
Guest john9
The deer population is huge in NJ, less then 2% of the human population hunts in the People's Republic of New Jersey.

nativetexan
This is my second year hunting in Jersey. I started out last year as a newbie, and still consider myself one. Growing up and hunting when I was a kid in Texas, we never really had all of this mess as they have here in Jersey. I would have to say that there was a good 20 year span since the last time I have done any real hunting, and having a stressful life in the military, I chose to get back into it for my sanity. However, New Jersey has done more to drive me insane with their stupid gun laws and hunting regulations (which you need a communist translator to read). Everytime I go to Sportsmans Center or Harry's, the common talk around the gun counter is not about guns, or even hunting, its more about the government here. It is difficult for me to want to go to another state because I feel like if I am not contributing, then that is another reduction in hunter percentages here, and does nothing for my fellow hunters but raise the prices. Even though they are going to raise them anyway. Danged if you do, danged if you don't kinda situation really. Unfortunately, with friends and family living in surrounding states, the cost of non-resident licenses is equal to a Jersey resident license, and without all of the bureaucracy. To some extent. I am going to hunt again here this season, but next year I will probably go to NY, PA, or VA. I hate to say that I feel sorry for the people that live here, but I feel sorry for the people that live here having to deal with all of the politics, taxes, etc. I live here, but I am not a resident. Sort of disheartening the whole thing really. As far as the best places to go WMA wise, I am still educating myself. I have seen tons of sign in Colliers Mills (Zone 17) but you wouldn't catch me there during the 6 day. I have contemplated joining a local club here that holds a bunch of leases, but its $700 or so a year and I still think that is out of my price range. Especially when I can hunt in other states for next to nothing on private land, just have to have the time to get over there, which is limited given current Middle East operations. If I hear of anymore good places, I will definitely post them. Maybe...
nativetexan
BTW, there is a public forum for the proposal of the bear management plan here in Jersey on Wednesday. Check out the site below for info...I had to send my voice in via email because I cannot make it. Probably had some anti on the other end that as soon as they read "hunt" it went straight to the garbage then "report address as spam." http://www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/bbpubmtgnotice07.htm
Adjam5
Does NJ offer lifetime licenses? That would be one way to beat any future price increases. I saw the price frenzy coming on a long time ago in NY, and beat it buying a lifetime sportsman and archery license. NJ is the ONLY state that I think may have it worse than NY when it comes to hunting and firearm ownership. Look at the trend in the metro NYC region. Billionaire/millionaire politicians; Corzine, Bloomberg,Spitzer, Grannis (NY's new DEC commish ect) are and will be making policy for us all in the future. Teach your children well outdoorsman. We are becoming a endangered species.
njbowhunter27
no lifetime licenses or I would have bought one already. The only good thing I can see in the future is maybe they will allow sunday hunting to make more money.

Guest SNJ
This is what hunting is now This is what NJ has come to. What many hunters do not know is that fees from hunting and fishing goes into a general fund. That money can be used in Camden or Newark or towards improving our hunting and fishing. You also have enviromentalists who want to put a fence around the woods and keep everybody out. To raise the costs to hunters and fishermen is an easy thing to do. There are few politicians who can help us. This is not just happening here. I used to hunt my brother's farm in Illinios. Their nonresident fee is now almost $400. Since they split thier season I can not afford 3 days of hunting at that price. Hunting is becoming a rich man's world. For the right price you can buy your way into the record book. You go to a place where the deer are strictly managed. The deer have the best food always and they do not have to worry about being pressured and being shot before they reach maturity. The hunter does not have worry about another hunter in the area. Also who knows what is in the food. Maybe these deer are on steroids This is the world we are in.
njbowhunter27
BY the way i do like the new law... Why is that? I think this is going to cause a less accurate deer count. A lot of poaching. Guys are going to kill bucks and not check them in because of the cost of the extra permit. I dont think this will help the antlerless kill at all. Most guys are not going to change Once a head hunter always a head hunter. I know guys who refuse to shoot does. And this law will not change that. nativetexan
I agree, when things start getting too expensive, it breeds poaching and makes keeping ethical hunting alive that much more difficult. It is hard for me to get on board with NJDEP when they preach ethical methods, yet do things like this which entice people to breach ethics due to expense. Truth is, if every hunter had integrity, poaching wouldn't be a problem. This law is bunk. But I am going to pay it anyway. Somewhere, someone sucking the life out of welfare will certainly need my money.
Rayzorp
I agree, prices are crazy,, I stick to bow only in NJ and rifle in NY. I never got into muzzleloaders..
