kooter
what mounts and rings do you suggest I use on the new encore barrel that I just bought. I have been looking online at the leupold, but they only show the quick release type. anyone use these?
njbowhntr
Re: scope mounts I use the Leupold Rifleman mounts. I have never used the quick release mounts. I have been told by many that they work great. But no personal experience.
too_pointer
Re: scope mounts kooter, I have the quick release on my Encore muzzleblaster. I can pop the scope on and off with no effect on the accuracy. I'm not speaking here for everyobdy, just stating I luv them LOL. too_pointer
tedicast
Re: scope mounts kooter... I also have Leupold Q.R. base, and rings on my 209X50 Encore. Love them. super easy cleaning the gun. No loss of point of impact. I do know that Leupold makes their normal dovetail mounts for the Encore to, as my brother put them on his 209X50 this past spring. AJ
Re: scope mounts Leupold mounts are great. For the money, they are had to beat. You can get better mounts and rings, but it will cost a lot more. Leupold has high quality screws with torx heads which allows them to be torqued to the proper amount. I mainly use Leupold mounts and rings on my guns. This is from the Leupold web site: Dual Dovetail Base DD - T/C Encore (1 piece)Gloss: not available Matte: part #54218 Silver: part #54798 RINGS DD 30mm - High Gloss: part #49963 Matte: part #49958 Silver: not available Quick Release Bases QR - T/C Encore (1 piece)Gloss: not available Matte: part #52325 Silver: not available RINGS QR 30mm - High Gloss: part #49932 Matte: part #49933 Silver: not available
WABS
Re: scope mounts I'm in the process of mounting my Leupold bases and rings to my Savage Model 16 (300 WSM). Should get the scope in the mail today. A couple of questions...1. how much torque does it take to twist the post mount into place?? 2. How much of a problem is it that I had to mount the base with the windage screws on the front?

AJ
Re: scope mounts [ QUOTE ] 1. how much torque does it take to twist the post mount into place?? [/ QUOTE ] Sometimes quite a bit. Never use the scope as a wrench or lever to twist the ring in place. Get a 1" wooden dowel rod or use a screwdriver handle that will fit inside the ring. Also put a little dab of grease on the dovetail. It prevents galling and installation is much easier. [ QUOTE ] 2. How much of a problem is it that I had to mount the base with the windage screws on the front? [/ QUOTE ] The dovetail goes in the front and the two screws go in the rear. If it does not work, you may not have the correct base set. Savage changed the receiver profile on the new guns with the AccuTrigger. It has a rounded shape on the rear bridge and takes a different base set than the flat shaped rear bridge.
WABS
Re: scope mounts Got it on...now I can't wait to get to the range and see how this rifle shoots. I did have to put the rear base with the windage screws overhanging the ejector port slightly. Checked to ensure it didn't affect the ejecting brass...I'm good. I'll let you know how I do at the range.
