VermontHunter
I guess I can say I was right on the FINE and MONEY with this one ,,, :D;) I think it's a bunch of censorship bull as I did with Jr.'s penalty and fine ,, but I guess NASCAR has it's own glorified Gods... :( Here' it is ... Stewart docked 25 points and fined for bad language DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that Tony Stewart has been fined $25,000 and penalized 25 Nextel Cup Series driver championship points, as a result of using inappropriate language during a post-race televised interview following his victory Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/headlines/cup/07/31/tstewart.docked.points/index.html
Buckslayer
Yeah Luke, I saw that after the race... Didn't think it was that big a deal... but I guess profanity is profanity...
SuperMn106
I dont like the idea of taking points with this kinda stuff. I didnt like the call on Jr's and do not like this one.
IowaDeerHunter
Fineing for money is alright, I mean these guys really shouldn't be cussing on live TV. But points from anybody hate them or love them is dumb. But then again its Nascar, everything they do nowadays is dumb and rediculous. toddyboman
As you know I am not a big Nascar fan:), but I'm guess the reasoning for the taking of points is cause thats going to hurt the driver/team a lot more than money. He will learn nothing from loosing money since he has lots of it. And hasn't this guy been fined numerous times before.... As for the actually cussing When he said it was it bleeped out or not? Obviously all the replays have it bleeped out.
8ptbuckpa
I feel that NASCAR fines who they want to , Dale Jarret has cursed, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Bush they have all used profanity but where not penalized Also what was junior's penalty wasn't it like 50 or 100 pts? Stewart was not bleeped on tv
OJR
This whole NASCAR thing is getting to be BS!!!
VermontHunter
If anyone or anything should have been fined big time it's the networks .... What some of you are failing to realize is these drivers are pumped up after a race, and are prone to say or do just about anything ... I feel that the networks have a responsibility to have that supossed 5 sec. delay running at all times... What happened there ??... So really who's fault was this being aired on live national television ?? This is all FREE money and publicity for NASCAR and it's a bunch of huey IMHO...
Guest Finn
Agree Luke, where's the delay? Personally, I think Tiger Woods cussing after every missed shot is a whole lot worse than this small blip of language. I don't think Tony is worried about the fine or the points. Nascar seems to penalize them for publicity points saying they don't condone it...big deal. I really don't think it's that big of a deal, but think the little fine is a joke. MUDRUNNER
You guys pretty well said everything. The money is one thing, but I just don't see how he can get fined points for something that happened off the track and had nothing to do with the race.Your right Luke, where was the delay?I thought after the Super Bowls "wardrobe malfunction" all live events had to be on a delay.I suppose that's up to the network. VABuckSlayer
I know they have to do something as far as punishment for what he did but points... that's rediculous. It's one thing for rules infractions with the car or on track incidents but taking points for cursing on LIVE TV is just plain rediculous!!! Randyman
I watched the interview and the word in question was not bleeped. I also believe this cannot be chalked up to "the heat of the moment". Tony knew exactly what he was saying and the effect it would have. This occurred in victory lane so it was not away from the track. The precedent has already been set with Chad Knaus, Dale Jr. and a few others, so to stop now would be ridiculed by those that insist Nascar plays favorites. If the FCC wanted to push it, ESPN/ABC could receive a pretty stiff fine for this. Obviously, they should have used a delay. Why they don't is beyond me. In my opinion it was just Tony being Tony!
