Swamphunter
Is a Remington 700 30-06 considered a long action or a short action?? What establishes the difference? Thanks
Jeramie
Directly from the Guntech Dictionary: Short action : A subjective category used for both cartridges, generally centerfire only, and the rifles that fire them. A short action cartridge is generally taken to be one under three inches. Long action: A subjective category used for both cartridges, generally centerfire only, and the rifles that fire them. A long action cartridge is generally taken to be one between 2.8 and 3.4 inches. The .30-06 is a Long action Rifle. (thanks Zoobear)
ZooBear
A 30-06 is a long action, 308 and shorter are short actions.

OJR
'06 is the standard long action! Your magnum actions are longer!
hangunnr
'06 is the standard long action! Your magnum actions are longer! Not in a Remington action. Magnum and long action are the same length only the bolt face is different. To directly answer the question..... A 30-06 in a stock Remington is a long action. hangunnr
