Guest Mdbowhunter16
Wow thats sad, the kid was just having fun fishing and ends up dead. The cops should have had more sense than to be firing a weapon when kids are around.
dogdoc
This happened in the town that I grew up in--Noble. I have been sick about this all weekend. There is no excuse for what this officer did--and if any of us did this we would be sitting behind bars right now--and believe it or not the officer is on PAID leave right now. A family is burying their 5 year old son. If this was my child--I would want that officer to spend the rest of his life in jail. IMO at the minimum negligent homicide charges should be filed. stevebeilgard
OMG......this is truly a freak accident that could of been avoided.......I will pray for the little boys family, and for the officer, because I have no idea what I would do to anyone that harmed one of my kids, even by accident......so sad....prayers to all involved...........al i'm sorry to say that after reading all the threads, too much emphasis has been put onto the cops. the point here, as i see it, is a 5 year old who is dead. and prayers are much needed for him and his family. that's my first priority. and done. now, those cops were stupid. they swear an oath to serve and protect. i feel that is what they intended. but, how dumb is it that a person carrying a gun misses the fact that what goes up muct come down. you know, the basic law of gravity. shooting a snake out of a tree? lots of questions to answere here, such as was the snake threatening anyone? did it need shooting immedately? fact is, i think they were playing macho cop, and wanted to fire their gun. now, they have to live with the fact they killed a 5 year old innocent instead of the snake. i'll let the law do it's job on this one. but i'll also keep this poor kid and his family in my prayers. archerjg
What a horrible tragedy. Thoughts and prayers go out to the families. What were they even thinking shooting in the air without knowing what was beyond their target? Archerjg
Bachflock
Inexcusable... but this shouldn't reflect on every police officer. They are human beings just like everyone of us here. That means there are a lot of good people in the police force. That also means there are a lot of jerks (or worse) and those that don't think. How many times do you hear about the good the vast majority of them do everyday because its their job. They don't get credit for that unless its something extremely heroic. My hats of to police in general. Let's not fry the police for one idiots actions... should we let gun owners take the rap for the bad guys who commit crimes with guns? shockwave
From everyones comments, i assume another course of action could have been taken. It`s a shame when another course of action could have been taken and wasn`t, and someone died because of pure stupidity..

I am very critical of the police in this situation. There does not seem to be any logical reason for what they did. I am anxious to hear the whole story. It is easy for people to called the police "idiots" (like someone above already has), forgetting that in any profession in the world, there are idiots, but we don't put them in an "all inclusive" basket. If you read my post above, you can see that in know way do I agree with what they did. Just all inclusive comments from new members are uncalled for. Guest Andrea
I would never lump all police into the same category. That would be ignorant. In this instance.....there is only ONE person to blame. And I hope he pays dearly.

And I hope he pays dearly. Very true Andrea. That would be kind of like lumping all hunters along with the slob hunters out there. Just not hardly fair to make those types of assumptions based on ones ignorant actions. Like others have mentioned here too, lets dont forget to pray for this kids family. Really very sad, cannot imagine their pain.
Hoosierbuck
A very sad reminder that you can never allow a brain fart when you have a firearm in your hands. In other circumstances a lapse of sense can be funny, with firearms that lapse can be deadly. HB
