Guest jake480
Hello, This is my first post, I have a couple of questions based on some hunting I plan on doing here in South Texas. I will be going after Blackbuck, Axis and Whitetail. I purchased a new Savage 30-06 Rifle from Bass Pro and had them add a Nikon Buck Master scope 3X9-40. I am looking at a good ammo to shoot for these animals. The one that got good reviews on Cabelas website and the guy at Bass Pro liked was Winchester XP3 Supreme Elite in 180 grain. Both stated that would give me a large amount of hit to the animals. Any thoughts? Thanks Jake
toddyboman
shoot different types through your gun and see what it likes. Welcome to Realtree!! :D
Texan_Til_I_Die
None of those animals are thick skinned or particularly difficult to bring down. Pick your favorite whitetail load (should be something that shoots well through your rifle) and go with that. Anything from 150 gr to 200 gr will work just fine. Jeramie
I agree, any white tail ammo should work. Personally dont count out the Cheap Corelokt. Very cheap but dependable. 150grn should be enough to bring down any animal you've mentioned. I use to shoot 180grn but switched to 150 and had just as good of results. If the Corelokts dont shoot well dont be afraid to shoot Winchester Super X. More than likely one will drive tacks out of your gun and either are completely adequate for game, regardless of the lower price.
OJR
Use any 150 or 165 grain bullet that shoots good! You won't have any problem on any of these animals!
Leo
I've found 30-06s shoot the 180gr or 165gr varieties the most accurately. Axis Deer though thin skinned can be amazingly tough. This is something a couple of my friends have absolutely discovered. A big Axis is often 10 to 15% larger than a big Texas whitetail so don't underestimate them by thinking them weak. They are not. Axis deer are also Fabulous eating. So make sure you can get as much meat home as possible.
Guest jake480
Thanks Thanks for the replies. I bought a box of 180 gr Core Lokt from Remington. I will shoot a box to see how they feel. Thanks Jayson
