muggs
Here, everyone of you who assumed he was looking for top five money (even though your daily source of sporting enlightenment- me;)- told you otherwise) read on.... From today's Cleveland "Plain Dealer." http://www.cleveland.com/browns/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1186389488249411.xml&coll=2 "The Browns have made some progress in negotiations for quarterback Brady Quinn and are now only about $500,000 apart in guaranteed money. However, there are other issues holding up the deal, including the triggers for the incentive package. The No. 22 overall pick, Quinn is seeking about $8 million in guaranteed money, same as the No. 20 overall pick, and the Browns have increased their guaranteed offer to about $7.5 million. Browns General Manager Phil Savage said Friday he was willing to pay a quarterback premium above the No. 22 slot to get Quinn into camp" The fact the Browns won't give him the extra $500,000 is ridiculous. Pay him, get him in camp already. They say Savage's strength is talent evaluation and scouting with contract negotiations being his weakness...I agree 100% at this point. Looks like he's asking for #20 money, which, for a skilled position such as QB is OK with me.
Ohiobucks
Talk yesterday was the hold up isn't the $500,000 guaranteed money, but it is the milestones Quinn needs to hit to trigger the incentive $$$ in his contract.
Tominator
Quinn is a DB and not worth the money IMHO. All hype.
muggs
Quinn is a DB and not worth the money IMHO. All hype. I can tell you're a Browns fan. I've never seen a fan base hate a first-round QB their team drafted so much. I think it's because he's a pretty boy and a Golden Domer more than anything. I personally think he'll be a good pro. btw- he smashed everyone of Joe Montana's records at ND...no big deal.
bowana
Michigan fan too close to Hoosier land!! Going to numerous Notre Dame games and watching Quinn I have to say I had mixed reviews. Michigan took him to school in South Bend, but he played like a champion against USC. He is a smart QB and knows how to run an offense. It will be interesting if he can adjust to the speed of the game at the next level. Notre Dames schedules have been a little weak over the years. But, then again if you watch the UCLA game from last year......he brought the team back from sudden death.....I even left the stadium early. Big risk that could pay back ten fold. muggs
Quinn really didn't have much around him at ND IMO.

Didn't the Browns fan base pretty much hate Tim Couch from the word go? I guess the dawg pound won't be happy until Bernie Kosar comes out of retirement. muggs
No, they loved Couch at first. Actually, their love is really what caused him to flame out. After the team started off struggling, the fans were really pressing for Couch to start, and the front office was too. The coach at the time wanted to sit him, but he was forced to start him. After 3 years of bad football, some of the fans turned on Couch, some didn't. I still think he's the best QB we've had here, he just got a raw deal. You put Peyton Manning behind that line he'll get killed and look like a bum.
Tominator
btw- he smashed everyone of Joe Montana's records at ND...no big deal. I can tell you're a lot younger than I am. Annnnnd, do me a favor. Go to a mirror and say this out loud "Brady Quinn is a better quarterback than Joe Montana" ` ` You smiled, huh? muggs
"Brady Quinn is a better quarterback than Joe Montana" I'm not saying that. I'm also not going to hate the guy just because he's trying to nail down a legit first contract, is a good looking guy, and played at Notre Dame either. Quinn's gonna be a good, best QB to come out of this draft. You mark these words.
muggs
Breaking News..... Just got a text messages from my source of knowledge close to the situation...Quinn signed!!!!!! I guess we get to see how he looks soon enough, although I don't expect him to play this Saturday. Forget the naysayers, the future is now boys. Have fun with that washed up drama queen Craig.:D
Ohiobucks
I can tell you're a lot younger than I am. * Insert daily Tominator beat-down quote here: Tons of guys and gals here are younger than you are. With age, wisdom doesn't always follow.... Quinn will make the Browns a better team, for sure. But you can't put it all on his shoulders, they need some help on the line (Thomas) and a few of the skill positions. The D could use some help as well..... wildside
You put Peyton Manning behind that line he'll get killed and look like a bum. Bite your tongue! Peyton, a "bum"?! Never! Ahh, my eyes are burning after reading that!!! I can't see. . . . help. . . . . . . . . . True enough, the offensive line can make or break even the most skilled QB out there (who happens to be Peyton Manning, of course). Glad to read that your man, Quinn, signed, and here's to a great season of football!

muggs
OK, straighten me out. Just what did this mean? (Excellent opportunity to waffle, right here, right now) It means Brady Quinn had a better college career than a legend did at that same school. If he goes on to beat he's records at the NFL level, that will mean he's had a better NFL career. And wildside, yes, Peyton Manning. The Browns Oline in '99 was probably the worst to ever grace an NFL field. You put any QB into a offense that can't run the ball, is very predictable, and behind a line that provides zero time and protection...he's not going to fair well and he won't have a HOF career. You can't throw the ball when you're on your back with a 285 lbs. defensive end on top of you.
Guest Finn
You can't throw the ball when you're on your back with a 285 lbs. defensive end on top of you. EXACTLY....ask Troy Smith about the title game. He didn't have time to set up, much less make a pass.
wildside
You can't throw the ball when you're on your back with a 285 lbs. defensive end on top of you. I would venture to guess that there's not much of anything you could do with a 285 lb. defensive end on top of you. Ouch, it's just plain painful to think about. The BS gets pretty thick in here, and most of us are just looking to get everyone else fired up...especially that MCH guy, he's a real piece of work. Oh yeah, on Tominator waffles on every issue. bowana
You guys crack me up! Quinn is in! I say he will be a good starting QB in the NFL.....probably in the same talent pool as Drew Breese (don't worry Purdue Grads can't spell either). But if you think he is going to be a Tom Brady (Michigan Grad of course) or a Manning.....no way! He will be a main staple athletic pillar. Just not a super star. Part of that is the franchise he has been delt (no bias here.....us Michigan fans always give Ohio State fans plenty of credit!).
