DU_man_84
dont like to say this but my 870 after 6 years is haven its first problem, went trap shooting the other day and every so often when i would go to eject a shell it would stick, and couldnt even pump the action open, sometimes i would have to hit the butt of the gun on the ground to eject a shell and sometimes it just took a yank on the forearm to eject the shell, but it would stick maybe like every 10 shells or something, any ideas

Buck75
I am no gunsmith so forgive me for not having the proper terminology, but my buddy had the same problem a couple years ago. It ended up being the metal "tab" in the action that keeps the shell in line as it goes into the barrel. Sorry I don't know the exact name here. He ended up taking it into a gunsmith and got it fixed pretty cheap and quick.
WaCoyote
It seems that a broken extractor would fail to eject all shells though. Could be wrong but thats what I would think.
Guest beagleman
Im having a major brain fart so please excuse me while I try to explain something you might look at. The slide bars that run from your forum back into the receiver might be worn. If those bar(might only be 1 on the 870) receives extra wear it can cause jam ups. I know this seems to be the extreme case of this. But pull your forearm back and forth to see the amount of wear on the bar. If this is the problem its easily fixed. Shouldnt cost you much at all, it would just need a little filing. I wish I could explain this in further detail. But I have all my study materials and resource books at home. And I took my son to my grandma's for the weekend. I dont have the internet at my house. But if you would like, I might be able to get more information and go to my sister's one day this week. And no Im not a gunsmith, but Im working on it.
johnf
I had the same problem one time shooting federal ammo while patterning my gun (benelli nova). After 3 or 4 getting stuck in a row I pulled them out and put in Rems. and winchesters. Only the federals got stuck and it was about 3 out of 4. I don't shoot federals. That fixed the problem. Leo
Sometimes it's sticky reloads. Sometimes it's gunk in the pocket of the barrel the bolt grabs onto. And sometimes it's simply the magazine cap is a little loose. Check that first
lil hunter
Mine did that when I first bought it. I think it ended up just being too much oil in the bore. I've heard of it also just needing honed some there, to loosen it up a bit. Should be an easy fix.
Guest Xen
really simple answer on this one. The remington 870 is a great gun. It has far too much class to be used for shooting trap. Get it as far away from the trap field as you can and you won't have any more problems with it.

heiner39
I have the same problem. A buddy of mine and I just bought brand new 870's and went out to fire off a few rounds. We both shot off a single round and went to rack in a new round. We found both of our breaches were locked and we had to use the release to open, eject the spent round and load new round. Mine did this a few times and his seems to do this a fair bit. Does anyone know what's going on here? I've sent a message to Remington but haven't heard back.
