wtnhunt
Been hearing a lot here lately about Thompson entering the Presidential race. This morning the local news reported that Bill Frist is strongly encouraging Thompson to make it offical. You guys think he will enter the republican field? If so, does he look to you like a more electable figure for more conservative minded voters than others that are currently out there? Really hoping he does enter the race, got a feeling if he does the current polling numbers which are setting Rudy on top, will see some changes. Any thoughts anyone. slugshooter
Re: Think he will run-Fred Thompson? It's hard to say. Me personally, I like the guy, probably more so because he is on Law and Order and was in Days of Thunder. Seriously though, Thompson got a lot of Buzz back in 2000 over running wasn't it. He never really committed, and he was still a Senator back then. Honestly, I like the guy, and I would probably vote for him. While he was electable in Tennessee, I don't think he can carry it nationally, I don't think he has the name recognition. While all Rudy may have done was be the Mayor of NYC on 9/11. He's got his name out there, everyone knows who he is. We've already had one actor who became president, why not another one, politicians are nothing more than actors for the most part anyway. OJR
Re: Think he will run-Fred Thompson? Of the ones who are more "conservative", I could vote for him! I still would prefer Rudy! I don't like his stance on guns, but other things are OK!

Think nationally he does in a way already have the recognition due to his appearances on television shows over the years, people will remember different roles he has played, and that might play in his favor. He is a likable figure imho. Also think if I am not mistaken that he has been one to hold firm in his views, and not go wishy washy like some others. People will vote for that alone. [ QUOTE ] We've already had one actor who became president, why not another one, [/ QUOTE ] And a good one Ronnie was. I personally would vote for Thompson over Rudy because I know where he stands.

(I chose those because those are the only things I can readily remember seeing him in.) I like the guy, and I will admit most of my admiration for him is based on his acting, and honestly, I could see myself voting for him, I just don't see it happening though. It's too early to really call it anyways.

wtnhunt
Re: Think he will run-Fred Thompson?-update Looking more likely now that Thompson will run. Caught part of his interview on Fox today with Neil Cavuto, and was very impressed. He also announced that he has non hodgkins lymphoma. Looks like a poll on Fox is showing that the majority of people do not think that would interfere with his ability to raise funds for his campaign. Best as I could tell Thompson plans to gauge whether he will make it offical or not based upon polls as to whether or not the people would vote for him knowing he has cancer. Heard that he is polling second in some polls, and he has not even announced for certain that he will run yet. He really looked strong in the interview, and think he would have a great chance, and would serve this country very well.
Newarcher
Re: Think he will run-Fred Thompson?-update I see a glimmer of hope in him. I have heard him fill in for Paul Harvey a time or two and really liked what he had to say, a lot of common sense stuff. New

For anyone interested there is a petition to draft Thompson, here is a link to that page fred 08. There is also more information there on that site as well. wtnhunt
Still no commitment from Thompson to run, but looking more likely now. Cannot help but respect and appreciate what he has to say. Texan_Til_I_Die
I think I heard that there's some made for TV, or maybe it was HBO, movie coming out at the end of May that he has a big role in. He wouldn't announce prior to that since the FEC would probably prevent the movie from airing if he were an annouced candidate.

He wouldn't announce prior to that since the FEC would probably prevent the movie from airing if he were an annouced candidate. Heard about the movie too, but had not heard about the movie possibly being prevented from airing if he announces his candidacy. Looking at the polling numbers, considering he is not officially in yet, he looks pretty good. Honestly think he can and will beat anyone that the dems can get nominated granted he would win the nomination from the republican party, which I think he will. I really think Thompson is the right person to lead this country now.
wtnhunt
Latest update just this morning http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18938109. Looking more likely that he will run, and is now taking the initial steps towards candidacy. Kind of an early prediction, but I think Thompson can and will easily win the conservative base and the gop nomination over Guiliani, and then go on to be the next President of this country. Yellowhammer
Man I hope Fred does run, I will vote for him. Right now there is nobody worth a flip running. America does not stand a chance with the ones running right now and that is both sides combined.

ky_deerhunter_77
I hope Fred does run. I don't know to much about him but he has to be better than the others who's running. As far as Guiliani or Clinton they are the some; left wing liberals, BOTH are against the war and want to retreat, wants to band guns, for same sex marriage, and legalizing illegal immigrants. It wont surprise me if they run as President and Vice President on the Democrat ticket. But this is only my .
