Guest Andrea
My son is obsessed with racing and we finally bought him a Ford Probe so he could race in the Stinger division at the local track. There's other boys out there his age. I watched them race last Friday. They don't go very fast. ( Not as fast as the stocks or modifieds) Just curious if anyone here does this.............. Here it is:

Steven
Yeah, Andrea, as you become more acclimated as to how the forums work, you'll learn to search a little before doing a double post. Rookie mistake, don't let it happen again. Who knows, one day you may become a mod.

AdvantageTimberLou
Come on guys and gal, everyone knows asphalt is the place to be! No matter what the surface is, racing is awesome! I have been around it for 20 plus years. The car I work on now goes around 120 MPH with about 800 horsepower under the hood weighing in at 2700 lbs. These cars are fun to work on and when the car is on rails, its an awesome accomplishment. Pictures of our car in action and in victory lane. MUDRUNNER
Come on guys and gal, everyone knows asphalt is the place to be! quote] Dirt's for racing...asphalts for getting there! I pit for a UMP modified, and use to pit for a super late model. Sounds like your boy has the fever.Racing is kinda like an addiction, once you start it's hard to quit. What size track does he race on?We do 1/4 and 3/8 mile around here.

This is his first time. http://blackmanraceway.com/
MUDRUNNER
The link says it's a 1/4 mile semi banked, same as the track we run in town. Good luck to him!I'm sure he'll be a little nervous pulling on the track for the first time.
AdvantageTimberLou
The biggest thing with racing is please do not skimp on safety equipment. Whether a $500 bomber or a $50,000 Super Late Model, fire is fire, and hitting a wall is still hitting a wall. A good helmet, a good fire suit, pair of gloves. and racing shoes is a great investment. I see too many guys skimp on safety and its there when and if you need it and allows you to race another day! So please pay close attention to all the details to keep him safe, Window net, seat belts. how the seat is mounted, roll bars. Safety is the upmost importance in racing!! He will have the best of everything when it comes to his suit , helmet, shoes and gloves. His father is making darn sure the safety details such as the interior of the car and the roll bars etc are in perfect shape. I may have to be inebriated in order to watch him race though. AdvantageTimberLou
When it came time for my dad to race the feature, my mom would NEVER watch. She would leave the stands and go elsewhere. She just couldn't watch dad out there racing. It scared her so much. We assured her he was safe but she just could not sit and watch. Way too nervous!! Now with the driver I work with now sure I get nervous for him but I know he is safe and he can drive that car and knows how to respect the car. You can't make a 5th place car win a feature, you take what you have and drive it safe and have the attitude that next week we will be better. I wish your son the best and once the racing bug bites it never leaves!
unioncountyslayer
Looks like he has a little damage to the front quarter panel, side panel, rear panel, oh never mind. Wish I had the opportunity to do some racing of some kind as a kid.
Chrud
Now with the driver I work with now sure I get nervous for him but I know he is safe and he can drive that car and knows how to respect the car. I get nervous too. It's a whole different view when your on pit road and eye level with the cars. Seeing a pack of 20 cars all sideways coming off the corner as a big blob can make you a little nervous. I can't imagine what it's like for a parent. MUDRUNNER
I get a little nervous watching too...mostly because i know if he wads it up I'm the guy that's gonna end up fixing up. It really is a lot of fun,and you meet a ton of great people. There are some bad apples in the bunch, but for the most part it's just a small community of friends...kinda like here. Let us know how he does this weekend!
Guest Andrea
He isn't racing this weekend. They are still working on the car we bought. ( Blown head gasket, water pump) Besides, Mom and Dad want him to practice a few times before he actually does it.
MUDRUNNER
Ahhh..I see. He could go to the races and request to start at the rear of the field just to get some seat time and a few laps on the track. A head gasket and water pump are just the beginning.
