Sam16
Hey guys... I was just reading through the Whitetail Institute pamphlet or whatever you want to call it. Of course, they claim their seed blends are the highest quality and outperform everything. Same with BioLogic, same with Tecomate. They all make these claims, then i read many of you guys dont even use name brand seeds. I used Maxi-rack seeds mixed with some BioLogic FullDraw amongst others this year. Just curious why you guys dont ever mention these name brands? Have you have bad experiences? Is it much more expensive? This is my first year of food plots, and just trying to figure out all the brands. Are there any brands you dont trust and others you swear by? wtnhunt
The worst results from any plot seeds I have used have been biologic's full draw, their clover supreme is ok though. The best seed has been from pennington, tecomate, and hamann farms. Pennington's pennkoted seeds are the fastest germinating seeds I have ever seen. Used RR soybeans for the first time this year from eagle seeds and was impressed with them as well. Have never used whitetail institutes seed, so I cannot say good bad or otherwise from first hand experience. Have had good results too with mixing my own blend of cowpeas(purple hull), dried from the garden along with sorghum from our local coop. Tominator
Whitetail institute germinated OK. I see now where someone is advertising some sort of seed treatment on MOR channel. Must be some sort of innoculent. That commercial really makes my eyes roll.

Saw their exhibit at the nwtf convention and their product looked interesting, but cannot say as though I am going to try the stuff. If that is what you are talking about, it has been around for a while, it is not an inoculate, but is supposed to be some sort of fertilizer treatment, dont honestly think it could be any better than penningtons penn koting treatment. Yep, that was it. Any angle I guess.
Guest coydog316
I have used Whitetail Institute for the last 8 years... I LOVE the stuff!
dogdoc
Sam--I have planted a lot of different seed blends---name brands and just regular seeds purchased at the co-op. I have never planted a seed that did not germinate. Now I have planted some that the deer never touched but the seeds germinated and the plants looked great. PotashRLS
I fully believe in the Whitetail Institute brand. They are the pioneers in Food Plot seed and have nearly 20 years invested in the genetics of seed production. You can call them and actually talk to someone who will help you with your specific questions. You can plant just about any seed from a coop or feed mill and the deer will eat it to some extent, but what about protein levels and palatability? Deer nutrition is the Institutes primary focus. Most will argue the popularity of a specific brand with their deer herd, but few if any can support their seed with scientific genetic research. The important thing is that the deer eat it and it is nutritious. Plant a variety and let the deer tell you what they want. Good Luck!
