anyone had any luck with this?

i am hunting with my archery tackle over a probably 100 acre bean field and i am right on the edge of the field in this little pocket and about 20 yards behind me there is a big lake. and their bedding area is about 300 yards in front of me and to the right. have u been seeing many deer coming into bean fields in early morning?

I dont know about in the early morning, but i know they hit the beans real hard until it turns brown, which unfortunately happens right around late sept or oct. Although i did shoot my huge doe on her way to a bean field last year on Oct 5th. Good luck over your field

YES! i finally got another hunters opinion i wasn't reall sure about the pocket but when i set up my homemade tree stand i was like.......man this has GOT to be the spot. when u are up there about 600 yards to your left my neighbor has a lot of wooded area and those deer cross the gravel rode and walk down the fence line right past my stand. but i knew that that pocket would be a good spot. i mean it's only 50 yards from where i shot my doe last year

Sounds like a good potential setup catching them returing to bed from feeding, especially if there is a natural funnel.

One of the best deer I have seen in the past couple years was in a small bean field almost every morning as I would pull in to where I worked just in the city limits. He was there more during the rut, but he fed in that bean field some in the mornings too. This was right behind a house, next to a nursing home, with a factory behind a thin strip of woods opposite the field.

that is the area i am hunting in(except for the lake) and i have never had any luck in the mornings but it is killer set up in the evenings

nice!

yea the reason i set up here is cuz last year when i shot my doe i had an either sex permit and right when i shot the doe i was like "YES!!!" and i looked to my left and this big 8-point was standing right at the field edge and was looking right at me!! i was like CRAP!! but now i got that 8-point on trail cam this year it is a HOG!! if i get 'em i'll post some pictures.

Beans are an excellent spot when they are green. After the turn in certain areas they can still draw alot of deer depending on what other food sources are in the area.If you have a standing bean feild in late season it will be a deer magnet......Last year in Dec. I was hunting just off a picked bean field and watched a big 12 point literally pulling leftover bean stalks out of the ground and eating them.........10 mins. later he ran off with a carbon shaft ripping through him!

Beans are an excellent draw for deer, you just have to know when to hunt them.

I dont think I would try to hunt it in the morning. They are out there all night. Get in between the field and their bedding area. Hunt the field in the evening or your same morning stand. If it is real warm like it normally is in early season they will stage in the acorn flats before they make there way to the field. Good luck!!

thanks but there aren't a whole lot of acorns round here. i have looked and looked for a stand between the field and the bedding area but there just isn't any "hangable" trees. but i feel confident in that spot even for early morning because remember i have a lake behind me. if it's hot they are going to be walking along that field edge down to the lake to get a drink. ........................*click* i'm gonna have that big 8 down (if everything goes right)

around here(VA) deer hit the beans hard until they start to turn. And then for about a week they dont touch them. The farmers around here say that as the beans are turning they taste really sour to the deer. But after they turn brown they hammer them again just as hard.

Very true.

If I were hunting in a place like Nebraska where they have hard cold I'd defenitely be setting up on the beans after they turn brown.

Another great thing about soybeans from my personal experience is that big bucks will openly chase or court does in the field early mornings & in broad day light during the rut. They feel safe & secure in tall soybeans because its provides cover.
