It continues to amaze me the way people think and how easily some are swayed to jump on a particular band wagon. So along those lines, I will ask a question and lets see what the general consensus is.

Global warming, is it balderdash? just a political hot topic? for real?

My thoughts; the earth has gone through many ice ages and warming trends. It is a cyclical thing and we are currently in a warming trend overall. Yes, we are speeding up the process, but it is going to happen anyway. The clearing of the rain forests and the incredible expansion of concrete covered earth is accelerating the process. The burning of fossil fuels has more to do with air/water pollution than global warming, but not to worry, eventually there will be no more fossil fuel. Hmmm.....

Your thoughts.

Here's something to ponder.

GLOBAL WARMING IN THE BIBLE

Scientists and other highly educated people generally discount the Bible, treating it as if it were a book of fables. Soon, however, they will realize to their great horror that God means exactly what He tells us in the Bible.

The seven last plagues occur during the last year of earth’s history. Global warming occurs during the fourth plague as described in Revelation 16:8,9 in the King James Version of the Bible: “And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.”

The sun at this time greatly increases its output, and there is nothing the scientists or bureaucrats can do about it. It will happen just as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow morning, and just as surely nobody will be able to do anything about it but suffer the consequences.

NASA’S CHIEF SCIENTIST IS CONFUSED

ABOUT THE OZONE HOLE

“The thinning of the ozone layer over other parts of the earth is accelerating, and we don’t understand why, and we don’t know how fast. We don’t know what factors control the movement of ozone in the stratosphere. We don’t know what part of the thinning is due to the natural dynamics of the atmosphere and what part is due to the destruction of ozone by manmade chemicals. We don’t know much of anything . . . . We’ve confused computer models of the atmosphere with the real thing. We’re making huge extrapolations based on nothing but models, and models are often wrong.”

Dr. James Anderson, NASA's chief scientist

The New York Times Magazine, March 13, 1994

GREENHOUSE GASSES

Many claim that global warming is occurring because of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide. What is the most effective greenhouse gas? What gas is most effective in trapping heat near the earth’s surface? It is water vapor. Water vapor is many times more effective in trapping heat near the earth’s surface than any other gas.

GLOBAL COOLING?

According to measurements taken at Tuvalu, Nauru, and the Solomon Islands, sea levels have fallen by about 2.5 inches over the last ten years. These island were supposed to be swamped by now because of the melting polar ice caps. Obviously it isn’t happening.

:) Dennis miller said it best........

"There's a lot of differing data [about global warming], but as far as I can gather, over the last hundred years the temperature on this planet has gone up 1.8 degrees. Am I the only one who finds that amazingly stable? I could go back to my hotel room tonight and futz with the thermostat for three to four hours. I could not detect that difference."

Perfect.....but Al Gore can't be wrong, can he?:D

Are we doing this earth right, no..... Is there Global warming because of us? Not likely.

I know science is in effect the best we have but break down the basics of science. You have a "Theory" in which it is tested over and over. If it is never dismissed or proven wrong it then gets bumped up to Law... Does that mean its 100% unevaluated truth? nope....

Given that, what makes a person believe without a shadow of a doubt that cutting an 8' column of ice and studying the layers they can truly understand everything this planet has been through since its birth? Personally I think its a LOT of guess work. Just like finding a disfigured skull and inventing entire races based on one skull.

In my short life time ive seen crazy weather patterns, natural disasters, and other stuff I cant even recall. For any scientist to even brag that they know the history of this rock is absurd to me.....

Think it is all about cycles as well, but there is no doubt the current cycle has some areas with warmer than normal temps. There does seem to be more extreme weather in the recent years though which in my opinion is due to the changes in the cycles. Think the hottest recorded temps before this summer for this area went back to 1954 and 1953. Think we are currently on our way to our 7th consecutive record breaking day today.

My question to the global warming folks remains this; if man is generating so much more heat, why were so many records set back before all the industrialiazation and usage of fuels which they claim to be creating the excess warming?

I tend to agree with you elkaholic. I think it's mostly just a warm period, but I do think there is some credibility to the "Global Warming" arguement. I just think that certain people exaggerate what is really happening for commercial or political gain.

That being said, Stephen Hawking, probably the best thinker of our time believes that we may have already caused irreversible damage to our environment...so I tend to listen to his views.

Who knows, all I know is Al Gore is full of BS.

I pretty much agree with everybody else. I'm sure we are contributing to the situation but not anywhere near to the level some people make it out to be. I look at most of this as being a natural process. We really only have good data in terms of climatology and earth condition type information over the last 50-100 years. And that is absolutely nothing in comparison to the lifespan of this earth.

For example, some scientists starting freaking out after Katrina saying that because of global warming hurricanes would be even bigger the following year...the biggest ever they said. Well how do we know? (And by the way they were wrong) Maybe from 1567-1575 there were 20 category 5 hurricanes that hit the U.S coasts. And maybe from 1710-1713 the average temperature rose 7 degrees etc..

All of those numbers are made up of course but, the point is maybe all of these things that people think are causes of global warming really are just somewhat natural ups and downs that have occured all through Earth's history. We just haven't had a chance to document it yet.

In fact, when you think about all of the processes that go into making this planet what it is, from the sun the whole way to the core of the Earth, it would be extremely naive to expect Earth's conditions to stay exactly the same at all times as some people think it should.

Anyways, we should stop worrying so much about the "gases" we are putting into the atmosphere and start worrying about the forests we are cutting down all over the world. From the mass clear cutting of the rain forests to the logging of a 3 acre plot down the street for yet another house. That's the real problem in my opinion.

BTW--The biggest global warming/greenhouse effect ever documented is going on right now on Venus. No humans there last time I checked.

some quick history facts. we are about to be enveloped in a new ice age(al gore, john kerry, and the rest of the bunch, just 30 years ago). no meteoroligists (weathermen) are on the list of "scientists" of al gore right now. wyoming, north dakota, south dakota, and montana. that is where almost of americas dinosaur fossils were/are found. it takes a tropical forest for a dinosaur to live. do these 4 states need to warm up to tropical standards to be "normal". welcome to a big, money making hoax, folks.
