Huntress
I am looking to buy a cheap <---relative term, I want the gun to work. 400.00 at the most unless there's an extreme circumstance. ---->autoloader, 12 gauge. I was looking at the Stoeger 2000 which I've heard good things about, but was wondering about the Charles Daly line? You guys know the good or bad on em? Thanks, Marijane
Guest Xen
I didn't like my stoeger at all. charles daly line is about equal when it comes to quality. my advice, look for a used 1100 or 11-87 in good condition.
LifeNRA
look for a used 1100 or 11-87 in good condition. That's what I would do as well! Any decent autoloader for that matter!
WaCoyote
Better go used or forget the autoloader altogether.
Huntress
Hmm...thanks for the advice. I have a pump, have had one for 6 years...I want an autoloader. There's nothing wrong with my gun, I just like the softened recoil of most autos and I am much more effective with them in a shot-after-shot enviroment. The 11-87 was my absolute first choice, unfortunatly, they are pricy (to me, I know that 700 bucks is no where near expensive when it comes to shotguns.) Thanks agian, Marijane
mike
hey marijane:D i got a daly for my nephew last year and i am not impressed at all with this gun:( not woth the money. as far as an auto goes i would look in the pawn shops at 1187's. i picked a used one up 2 yrs ago for 275 bucks! i had an 1100 in high school and had troubles with it jambing if i didn't shoot high dollar tall brass shells. something about the gas port on the 1100 fouls easily i was told. go check some pawn shops you might be surprised what you find. i will look at the ones i go to frequently and see if they got something. maybe they could ship it to an arms liscense by you:cool:
Leo
Please don't take this as a bash post on Charles Daly's. You have a shotgun now that works fine. I understand you want an auto-loader. But since you already have a gun that works fine I suggest you save your pennies and get what you really want and are really looking for. The 11-87s are decent guns, absolutely true. Maybe you can find a used one that works for you. I don't know. But IMO you would be making a huge mistake if you didn't consider a Winchester SX2, Browning Gold or a Beretta 391. BTW, the Beretta is the softest recoiling auto hands down. Benelli makes GREAT autos. No doubt about it. They are pricey though. The Stoeger's are built on the Benelli patent. But they are not reputed to be the light kickers the gas-guns are (like the SX2, BG &391). Bottomline, you might be disappointed with the "upgrade" buying a less expensive auto-loader. Huntress
Now we're getting somewhere, thanks guys! The whole reason I am finally going to buy a new shot gun, it's been on my mind for a while, is because I fianlly get to go duck hunting this fall. I want to be as effective as possible. I shoot a short-barrel Mossberg 500 now and it kicks like a mule. I'm not complaining, it really doesn't bother me as I am used to it. (I've been shooting it since I was 12.) Honestly, I want an auto loader that isn't going to break the bank, will fit me well (most guns are too large for good shooting form and are uncomfortable for me), and doesn't have more recoil than my gun now. Also, I don't want something that I am going to have to "baby" all the time. I will be squirrel hunting, duck hunting, dove hunting, shooting skeet/trap, basically, everything but deer hunting so I want a good all around gun that can take abuse and not quit on me. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, Thanks guys!
Guest Younggun308
My uncle has one, and it works fine, he did have to send it to the shop, though. I killed my first turkey with it, 3 inch magnum, and now he uses 3.5" magnum, and killed a tom from 50 yards away, since he practiced, I like the gun, and it works fine, I dunno, maybe his was a fluke. bozz
I really like my Daly's I have 2 C.D.'s , one 20 ga. auto I've owned for 4 years that has performed perfect with many clays and doves crumbled . I just got a 20 ga. youth pump from Wallys for my 12 yr. old for only $ 159 last Dec. that has performed just as well on the ranges so far. Bang for the buck the are awesome IMHO and have very little if any competition in the $ 300 brand new price range. Now I did see Bass Pro has a new Remington 12 ga. auto (sp) for only $ 349 that may be a better gun for the money, but really I could not ask for more from my auto for only $300 new 4 years later.......hopefully we will see more guns near the 300 mark in auto's for guys's like me that have to move my $$$ around for other hobbies too. EKYhunter
I've owned a Benelli SBE, a Browning Gold Hunter, and a 11-87 in Semi Auto shotguns. By far the best of the bunch, for me, was the Browning Gold. The Benelli's are nice and I never had a problem with mine but I much prefer the Browning. As far as a the Daly, I've got a 12 ga pump which was won at a NWTF banquet. It's light, easy to carry, has a really good Hardwoods HD finish, but in my opinion it's pretty much junk. Others have gave you good advice. Save your money to get something nice and don't settle!
bozz
I love Junk I like that word junk, I own a lot of junk,my house we built 3 years ago is the cheapest in the neighborhood, its junk and does just fine everything works and its new all for $ 167,000,my cars are cheap (no humvee) they are junk too but get me to and from with a.c. and they look nice,my bows are junk as well, only $300 but boy I shoot alot of fish and deer with them, as a matter of fact I shot a new state record 45 lb. fish with my cheap junkie $ 250 bow. Did I mention I love junk, need I say more....so if anybody know where I can find more junk for $300 that slays dove and clays like my current junk...I'm all in !!!!! LOL :^) One mans junk is another mans treasure !!!
smallmunster
I've had a stoeger m2000 for a couple years and have been happy with it, but it does kick more than a gas operated semiauto. Remington has the Remington SPR 453 which was the Baikal MP-153. I've never seen one but they are supposed to be good for the money. They will shoot the 3.5" shells as well. I've heard they are somewhat heavy though, good for waterfowl, but I'm not sure about lugging one around in the uplands.
Huntress
Thanks for all the help guys! I found a used, but in great condition, Remington 11-87 black synthetic. I shot a wood stock 11-87 two nights ago and loved it. Fit me real well, except for being a little heavy for me after several rounds of 5 stand. I'm shooting the gun Tuesday and assuming I like it as much as the other, will be the proud owner of a new shotgun!! Thanks again!
