sluggunner
How many of you guys and gals live where your hunting land it literaly your back yard? In other words you live in the country and own a large enough parcel of land that you can go hunting right where you live. Related to that I'm curious about the rest of you as far as how far you have to drive to get to your regular or favorite hunting spot? 10 miles, 50 miles, 100 or more miles? I just thought it would be interesting to compare the shortest commutes vs. the longest commutes to our happy hunting grounds.
Tominator
My hunting preserve is a whopping 3 acres. I get all kinds of critters back there though, from monster bucks to lil ol' doves. As far as bowhunting goes, I have to travel for that if I want to see a lot of deer. I travel anywhere from 5 miles to 50 depending on my starting point. I'm lucky enough to have a great friend in Ohiobucks and luckier still to pal around with him and be able to hunt some of the land he does. stevebeilgard
i typically hunt within 10 miles of home for deer and antelope, and hit the mountains for elk. we do have great elk within 50 miles, but i can never get myself a license....lol. fact is, though, i often travel thousands of miles to hunt. or i used to... toddyboman
Well my folks live on the ground we hunt so when I lived with them, yes I walked out the back door and to a stand. Now I live about 7 miles from them. So still very close.:D
Squirrelhunter91
Well.. Some of the land I hunt is in my backyard, which is the only way to access to property. And the other property we have is 62 miles away door to door.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
The closest private land i have access to right now is about 35-40 miles away. Even public land is a good haul, one is around 25-30 miles and another is about 35or so. Absolutly no public land in the county i live in
Guest swampfox
My tree stand is about 300 yards from the back door. I own 13 acres and the back 6 are wooded. I got 2 decent 8 pointers back there last year. I paid $600 to join a club 2 years ago and did not see a deer worth shooting. Last year and this year, I'll pursue the backyard bucks (and does). That is if the temp will ever drop back down out of the triple digits. The rifle season opened this week, but I can't get too excited about sitting in a stand in 100 degree heat. Guest COACH J.
Go out the back or front door hop on a 4wheeler and go any direction and thats where I hunt!350 acres some is ours some is neibours we lease from but all 3 neibours touch our land. Pretty cool setup but I do take 2 or 3 trips a tear to Ill and Ohio.
elkoholic
back yard heaven While I do not hunt on my property, I can walk out the back door and hunt thousands of acres of forest service land. Our property is only 6.25 acres but it borders public land and I have a couple of food plots and a watering trough that gets visited daily by some pretty decent bucks. There is also an elk herd on the ridge behind my house. Even with this, I still will do some traveling to hunt some favorite spots, some of which are a couple of hundred miles away. Guest pappenz
I hunt in my backyard... we have a little over 4000 acres of land, only whitetails and mulies in there though, no elk, only the odd moose...
wtnhunt
Hunt in the backyard here. We only have 60 acres and sole rights to the neighboring 35 acres.
okiedog
I live on 100 acres, so 95 percent of my hunting is in my backyard. Friend lives 1/2 mile down the road, he owns 130 acres. We also got access to 160 acres that joins his property. So I pretty much have 400 acres with a mile of me that is all private.

rhine16
I hunt two farms. One is 7 minutes to the east, and one 9 minutes to the southeast. Takes 12 minutes to go from one to the other on the dirt roads.

TCO
I usually go pheasant, deer and turkey hunting near my grandparents farm. There is close to 600 acres of land that I can hunt out there. It is about a 2 1/2 hour drive so I never get to make it there very often.

unioncountyslayer
I have several different spots. The spot I do most of my bowhunting on is less than 10 miles from my front door. The club that I am in is about 60 miles from the house and in another state (SC). One of my favorite places to hunt is at my wife's family farm, which is about 120 miles away, but once I'm there, I just walk out the back door in the morning and I'm on stand in less than 5 minutes. I'll also be making a trip to Texas and Alabama this year, and hopefully Wisconsin next.

bozz
I walk about 300 yards out back to my stand, it sure makes you lazy, now there are some new houses back there,so I need to knock on a few doors to away from them.....bummer, only had about 10 acres to begin with, but it was a bottle neck with planty of deer travel. Now I only drive to Dove hunt, its kinda of a bummer because I got this nice 4 x 4 Suv that I don't need to haul deer out, I just use my deer cart. I really miss those days of diving in to load deer up.....lol....and I do have an ATV for back up deer hauling.
buckbuster11
I own no land myself, but I do have access to a couple of farms and a few buddies land all within 5 minutes of where I live. It sure would be nice to have some for myself though.
