Backyard hunting question.

How many of you guys and gals live where your hunting land it literaly your back yard? In other words you live in the country and own a large enough parcel of land that you can go hunting right where you live. Related to that I'm curious about the rest of you as far as how far you have to drive to get to your regular or favorite hunting spot? 10 miles, 50 miles, 100 or more miles? I just thought it would be interesting to compare the shortest commutes vs. the longest commutes to our happy hunting grounds.

My hunting preserve is a whopping 3 acres. :D

I get all kinds of critters back there though, from monster bucks to lil ol' doves.

As far as bowhunting goes, I have to travel for that if I want to see a lot of deer. I travel anywhere from 5 miles to 50 depending on my starting point. I'm lucky enough to have a great friend in Ohiobucks and luckier still to pal around with him and be able to hunt some of the land he does.

My tree stand is about 300 yards from the back door. I own 13 acres and the back 6 are wooded. I got 2 decent 8 pointers back there last year. I paid $600 to join a club 2 years ago and did not see a deer worth shooting. Last year and this year, I'll pursue the backyard bucks (and does). That is if the temp will ever drop back down out of the triple digits. The rifle season opened this week, but I can't get too excited about sitting in a stand in 100 degree heat.

back yard heaven

While I do not hunt on my property, I can walk out the back door and hunt thousands of acres of forest service land. Our property is only 6.25 acres but it borders public land and I have a couple of food plots and a watering trough that gets visited daily by some pretty decent bucks. There is also an elk herd on the ridge behind my house. Even with this, I still will do some traveling to hunt some favorite spots, some of which are a couple of hundred miles away.

I archery hunt out my back door and 70 yards to the right. and rifle hunt across the street on my great uncle's land all the land I hunt around my house was 110 acres that was owned my Great Grandfather but after his death was divided and most of it sold:(.

Our hunting camp however is 3 hours north of us.

I have several different spots. The spot I do most of my bowhunting on is less than 10 miles from my front door. The club that I am in is about 60 miles from the house and in another state (SC). One of my favorite places to hunt is at my wife's family farm, which is about 120 miles away, but once I'm there, I just walk out the back door in the morning and I'm on stand in less than 5 minutes. I'll also be making a trip to Texas and Alabama this year, and hopefully Wisconsin next.

I walk about 300 yards out back to my stand, it sure makes you lazy, now there are some new houses back there,so I need to knock on a few doors to away from them.....bummer, only had about 10 acres to begin with, but it was a bottle neck with planty of deer travel. Now I only drive to Dove hunt, its kinda of a bummer because I got this nice 4 x 4 Suv that I don't need to haul deer out, I just use my deer cart. I really miss those days of diving in to load deer up.....lol....and I do have an ATV for back up deer hauling.
