LifeNRA
My neighbor has this shotgun. The funny thing is, about the barrel has a perfectly bulged spot about four inches from the muzzle. It looks like it was machined that way when you look down inside the barrel. Anybody know anything about this shotgun? Did a little searching on line here but nothing came up with this weird looking barrel.
Strut10
My guess is that it was shot at one point with a small barrel obstruction. The barrel did not burst.........just ballooned out some.

The barrel did not burst.........just ballooned out some. That's what I said too! Ill see if I can get a pic of it! It looks too perfect though. Almost like it was heated and pushed out! I looked down the bore, and it does look like something rubbed the inside to cause this bulge. But I thought too it was shot with a slight obstruction. WNY_Whitetailer
My grandfather gave me his Winchester Model 12 16GA about 5 years ago...He said that he has no use for it anymore and I was more than happy to take it off his hands...He bought it new in 1939 just before he went in to the US Army...He didn't get a chance to go hunting with it much until 1945...He was a little busy during the previous few years over in Europe... Anyway, there is no bulge in the barrel on the gun...If I get a chance to take a pic of it, I will post it...Barrel is smooth and in excellent shape. There was a poly-choke installed on it...I don't know if that was a stock offering of if my grandfather had it installed...

Guest Colorado Bob
any chance steel shot caused it? Maybe a full choke & the steel shot was a little too hard? Just a thought. CB
Shaun_300
My first thought the same as Strut's. I know if you shoot them directly into water (barrel in water) they'll split, but they usually peel like a banana! Not sure, could have had a bit of dirt or snow in the end, and caused excessive pressure in the barrel but not enough to burst it.
LifeNRA
The gun has a full choke, there is no changing chokes, too old. Nice little shotgun, but I am sure the gun is now worthless since this. But yeah that could have happened too! Full choke and steel shot!
