Covehnter
My lab has split the pad on the bottom of the front foot. Wondering what the bitter spray was called to keep him from licking it so that it would heal quicker. Cant remember for the life of me. lil hunter
Theres some stuff called Bitter Apple thats I've heard of using on furniture and stuff to keep dogs from chewing. Is that what you are thinking of? I don't know if I would want to spray something like that on an open wound though
dogdoc
cut pads can take a while to heal. Unfortunately pads don't hold sutures well so we usually just let them heal on their own. My favorite bitter tasting ointment is a product called Bitter Orange. It is an ointment not a spray so you can apply it to the skin and hair around the pad and not affect/irritate the actual open cut. There is a product called EMT gel that you can get at many sporting good stores that carries dog supplies--it is applied directly to the would to help prevent infection and aid in healing. The problem is most dogs just lick it off as quick as you put it on. The most important thing you can do is keep it clean. Flush and clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide twice a day--this will get all the dirt and ground particles out of the would and speed up healing. good luck todd
Covehnter
Thanks, i knew i could depend on dogdoc! We've been keeping it clean w/ hydrogen peroxide and putting some oinment on it, then taping a sock over the foot to stop him from licking but thats a big hassle and doesnt last very long. Any idea on the bitter orange? i'll google it. Thanks again.
