Peep Sights

I used one for years. I was made to believe they were a "necessity". Then one day my mentor convinced me to try it without and I won't ever have a peep on again for hunting. There are just too many benefits for me without one and really no accuracy issues. It can be argued that going peeples can actually IMPROVE accuracy when you consider thie following. Picture a scope and its reticle. Now with that in mind, replace the verticle portion of the crosshair with the bow string and the horizontal portion with your pin and you have now got a reticle for a bow.;) The one thing that you have to maintain in order for this to work is a very consistent anchor. If you have one, a peep is not necessary.

I started 23 yrs ago without one and shot fine. About 15 yrs ago I started using one and I won't shoot without one. Just switched to a tubeless peep after last season, so far I like it. It is all in preference. My Dad tried one years ago and didn't like it and still shoots without one. There are pros and cons with a peep. I like it as just another anchor point to make sure everything is lined up. But in low light conditions you may not always be able to make out your pin and/or target. So, I say try it and make your own decision. As with anything archery it comes down to shooter preference and what works for the individual.

I did use one but after hunting out of a pop up blind last year, I've decided to go to a No-Peep. Even with a large peep, it was just too dark inside that "tent" for my tired old eyes to pick up the pins and the target. I've been practicing with the No-Peep for a couple of weeks now and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Definitely different. My groups are good, typically around 2-3 inches at 20 yards, but when I get a "flier" it's way off. In fact, at 20 yards I'll still miss the deer target completely about every 6th or 7th shot. Haven't figured it out yet, but I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm doing to cause it. I think I'm really going to like the No-Peep once I get all of the bugs worked out.

i use a peep all the time now. but about 10 years ago i never did and still shot a bunch of deer. i would reccomend that all shooters shooting compounds use them. they allow you to be a lot more accurate i think.

i use a Specialty Archery hooded Superball Peep. it allows me to screw in differant size aperatures to fit whatever im doing. for hunting i like the 1/8, for 3D i use the 3/32 and for indoor i use the 1/16th.

of course i like the biggest size for hunting to gather the most light i can get to be able to see my pins on those darker days and towards late afternoon shots.
