LifeNRA
how long can you freeze it??? untill it gets old???????? Loose wrap in the freezer, 1 year FoodSaver vacuum sealed, 2 years I just pulled some of the deer baloney out of the freezer the other day. Tastes and looks just as good as the day I brought it home! Guys and gals, do yourselves a big favor and get a vacuum sealer!

Guest Andrea
We had some that was packaged with the foodsaver in 2004 and it's still good. ( ground deer burger)
LifeNRA
well i wrapped it good with plastic wrap and then freezer paper. how long do u think?? Wouldn't keep it longer than 1 year. What I meant with loosed wrapped is just what your doing. Air will still freezer burn the meat. I used to do the same thing and threw some meat away after 6 months. Cant beat a vacuum sealer! BTW, not everybody gets back to a thread really fast, have a little patients!!!

wtnhunt
well i wrapped it good with plastic wrap and then freezer paper. how long do u think?? Would expect no more than a year put up like that. Use the foodsaver for all our venison, it keeps easily over a year.

Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
i couldn't tell ya how long it lasts in a freezer...ours is usually gone in less than a year!! i do have backstraps left from my deer last year, i am trying to hold off on cooking them, want to take em up and cook em at deer camp in November! RangerClay
well i wrapped it good with plastic wrap and then freezer paper. how long do u think?? That's similar to how we wrap ours. Try the plastic food storage bags ( not zip locks) much easier! Fill the bag, twist, tie, wrap in freezer paper. Good for three years tops. You can get 5 or more from food saver but venison doesn't last that long in our house.
razortec_hunter
GASP*! wow food savers are kinda pricey!! i think i'll stick to just my plastic wrap
Dogg6
If you are going to loose wrap it, don't use plastic wrap. We have always used 2 layers of freezer paper and have never had freezer burn. Last year we had to clean out the freezer and found a package of venison steak that got shoved to the bottom. It was marked 2002, we unwrapped it and there was no burn on it and it tasted fine. I have had some veni steaks from a friend that used plastic wrap on his and in less than a year it was showing signs of burn. This is just my recomendation if you are going to loose wrap. Spend a little extra money and double wrap in freezer paper and you should have no problems at all. I have been doing it this way for 23 years and my family for much longer than that with no problems. Besides the plastic wrap can give the meat a funny taste IMO. razortec_hunter
awesome! i think i'll do that with the next deer. cool thanx
johnf
I found some 4 year old trout in my freezer that I had vacuum sealed and they tasted like they were fresh out of the stream. Highly recomended. How many deer would you have to shoot in a year for it to last that long. I killed two and we're just about out.
razortec_hunter
lol no i only shot 1 deer last year but i was just wondering how long i could keep it
LifeNRA
Regardless how you wrap it, without a vacuum seal. The taste will deteriorate as soon as its frozen. Because air trapped inside is the reason the meat starts to freezer burn. But hey! Its your meat not mine!
johnf
GASP*! wow food savers are kinda pricey!! i think i'll stick to just my plastic wrap I've got the Black&Decker one from Wal-Mart. It was under $40 and I've used it for about 5 years.
