spyderpancake
Well, after falling in love with the girl of my dreams, my thoughts have started turning towards the future, and i have begun noticing engagement rings. I have plently of time, i won't be proposing for another 1 1/2 years(gotta get college out of the way first!) I have always hated the idea of spending thousands of dollars on a ring that looks just like what every other woman is wearing, and want something unique, so after looking around some and talking to Colleen, I am seriously considering getting a ruby. I am thinking a vintage-style ring with 2 smaller diamonds on either side(she doesn't like solitaires) and the tiny ones in the band. I think the ruby will really bring out the color in the other diamonds. Here is a link to one that i am liking the looks of-just imagine the main diamond replaced with a nice deep, red ruby. What do yall think? (Ladies opinions are especially appreciated!) http://www.scottkay.com/bridal/products.aspx?categoryid=94&productId=1562&page=1&view=
Guest Andrea
It's gorgeous. And you're right, it's silly to go in debt thousands of dollars over a ring that could very well get lost or stolen. Rubies are beautiful....I'm sure she will love it. :)
Jeramie
All my wife wears is Pigeon Blood Rubies (darker color). She also only wears classic jewelry. Her wedding ring does have a half K diamond in the wedding band but the rest is rubies and small diamonds. I could have spent thousands on diamonds but didn't. She didn't want me to either. We have roughly $1300 in the set. That was probably to much but now days you couldn't touch anything like it for under $2500.

mike
if she doesn't like the ring you pick out... run my friend:D it has gotten way out of hand as far as rings go imho. its just a symbol. true love doesn't need a symbol;)
MUDRUNNER
That's a fine looking ring! I wish I could have talked my wife into one that didn't cost so much...I had to sell my snowmobile to pay for it.Luckily she hasn't lost it or damaged it yet.I think we only paid about $200 for mine. RangerClay
You are smart not to rush into it!!!!! My suggestion is to do what I did. First, discuss the possibility of getting married. Two, (and most important) ask her what she wants, especially the cut of the gem. The last thing you want is for her to be disappointed with the ring. Third, keep your eyes open for a jewelry store going out of business or moving. I kept my eyes open and got a ring for half price. There are many variables for chosing the right ring for your gal! GOOD LUCK!
