Ive used thunder heads the last 2 years. Ive killed 11 deer with them but none have just blead real good. luckly I hunted clear cuts so tracking wasnt a big deal cuss i would watch um drop. I have now changed land and hunting hardwoods again. Was wondering does somthing do alittle more damge. The thunder head put a perfect 3 blade cut going in and the same going out. I want somthing that takes a chunk on the exit. I used to shhot stealforce but I was running them after one shot due to the fast blow threw. They where awsome though blood trails where amazing. Im using the mathews switchback pulling 70lb.s and shooting carbon express 300 CX

I also have used with success the thunderhead, i believe it all depends where you hit the animal. In watching alot of video;s it seems that something like the spitfire makes a very large entry and exit hole, you are shooting enough poundage with enough kinetic energy to use them. But again, shot placement has alot to do with it..

Two choices in my experience.

If you want a blow out with a fixed head then try the G5 Montec.

If you have the K.E. (65# my recommendation ) this head will blow a barn door out the back side.

If you don't mind trying a expandable then try the NAP Spitfire.

Requires only 2# more K.E. than any fixed head of it's size (4# more for average fixed head size) and will put a ton of blood down.

I am totally color blind and can follow a Spitfire trail though anything ;)

When I first posted on this, I had planned on shooting Rage 3 blades. that was before I got this G5 striker. I shot it a few times when i got it, flew great, are very sharp...didn't hesitate to run out and buy a pack. Those are what I will be shooting this season. I may still keep a Rage in my quiver to try out on a doe or something.

I used to shoot Thunderheads myself. The only problem i had was that I would have to adjust my sights between field tips and broadheads so I tryed Spitfire expandables for a season. They flew great, but i shot a doe and didn't get a pass through and blood was sparse and to this day I think I made a good shot but the head failed somehow. Now I shoot Crimson Talons and have no complaints. They fly great and tear things up on there way through.I shot a G5 Stryker yesterday and was impressed. It flew great and is sharp enough to shave an ants butt. The cutting diameter is just a little less than my Talons, but I might try to use it to take an animal this year and see how it performs.

I use muzzy 3 blade 100 grain heads. I've killed 7 deer with these braodheads and got awsome blood everytime. Plus muzzy's are truly are bad to the bone I shot my first buck last year with my bow and I hit him at about 35 yards in the shoulder and the broadhead just busted through the bone..I saw that deer when he laid down to die.. I.M.O. Muzzy's are #1

It really depends on where you hit the deer. if you have a low exit you'll have a good blood trail. I've shot thunderheads and now shoot muzzys, but I've never really gotten a fantastic blood trail because when you hit them where you're supposed too, they go on a death run and croak before their chest cavity fills up enough with blood to really bleed. But you you roll them over its like turning on the faucet. IMO if you want a better blood trail go to a larger diameter BH. the MX-3 I believe is 1 1/4 inch. good luck.

Spitfires are great as far as im concerned! Now granted i personally have only killed three deer with them, but other guys i know use em and have killed dozens with them over the years. They do leave big holes i will say that!

As far as penetration goes.... i shoot an overdraw so my arrows are fairly light (short) and i use 85 gr. spitfires shooting about 65lbs. ive never had a problem. The doe i shot on sat was almost at 35yds and it went clear thru with no problems.

If considering mechanicals....these get my vote.
