Sask-Hunter
Just wanted to know how many people bowhunt out of ladder stands, i know you can really hide hangons way up there but is a ladder stand too revealing for those close shots?? 98chevy
Me and a buddy of mine killed 4 deer with in 20 yards last year out of climbers. Ive probly killed a dozen under 10 yards in the last 5 years. I dont think they care about the ladder but something that we try to do i put it on real big trees so are siloet is covered bye the tree. Ceder trees are great. I like lock on also. I do use climbers but they are noisey.
Guest Hunter36
A buddy of mines favorit spot is a 8ft ladder stand in a tree grove. The deer come down the edge of the grove and pass right in front of the tree. He has great background cover so he placed the stand on the back side of the tree so the deer cant see him. He draws and then peaks out from around the tree. Or lets them get past alittle and shoots them quartering away. I personally am going to hunt out of a laddersatnd thats about 7feet high in a very young tree row. Ill let you know how it works out North Dakota opens August 31st. hoytbowhunter
I hunt out of ladder almost 50% of the time and have no problems having deer coming in within ten yards. I have had deer feed right at the base of the ladder before they don't seem to mind them that much in my option.
Sask-Hunter
Im thinking about buying one here, any opinions of a good 16-18 foot ladderstand thats not to expensive?? I guess background covers the key;)
hoytbowhunter
I don't know the name of them but Dick's runs a sale on some pretty nice ladder stands for around a $100. The Big Game deluxe and the Ameristep buck buster are very nice stands but cost quite a bit more. About how much are you looking to spend? Turkeygirl
We have one on the neighbor's property and it's what I hunted out of when hunting there. Never had a shot from it but saw plenty of deer and actually had a great shot at a nice little 6 point at 10 yards and under...had I not filled my buck tag already! I think we got ours for like $
Sask-Hunter
Nothing to expensive again, just something sturdy and easy to set up that will put me 15 or more feet in the tree, maybe 180 canadian
Guest COACH J.
Wal mart used to sell a basic ladder stand 12ft for like 70$ and they sell 4 ft ladder exstentions for like like 20$ but not sure if they still do... I bought a nice one last year from gander mountain for 100$

98chevy
I love my strong builts. We probly have 10-15 floating around There roughly 10 years old. We leave um out year around. Seems the deer get real comfortble walking bye it thay way. Also strong built s are about a 100 bucks. I have to ol-mans or actully one now one got stolen. I DO NOT like them. They are more comfortble but They have way to many moving parts that squeek when you ease up for a shot or adjust for a shot. About took a sawzall to one when a 120 class 8point was at 30 yads eating white oaks. I drew back and needed to adjust just alittle. Bairly shifted my weight when the arm rest popped up??!! I saw the butt of the buck and that was about it. Never seen to many bucks that size in my whole life.

hoosierhunter47
Im not sure about everyone else but ive never had any problem with ladder stands, i have two set up in different locations due to conditions, wind, etc. actually last year i had 6 does walk right under me in my ladder stand that one which is only about 12 ft. up and i stuck the last doe of the group, after they walked by of course, so yea just make sure its a tree with good limps to cover you up or a bulky enough tree that will hide your silouet. SaskMan
North Pro Sports in Saskatoon had some when i was there last weekend, not a bad price either. Email Kevin at [email protected] and ask him what he's got for ladders. If not for a new computer and air conditioning this summer I'd have bought a few. Oh yeah........that superguide.......it's a bugger keeping him out of your area. lol
Guest Guideman
I have had tremendous succsess from Ladder stands. Either placed deep in the wooods during the heavy acorn mast years or, over the food plots that we plnant yearly. Don't worry about the ladder portion. Spray it heavily with a good scent control system and hunt hard. Good luck.
Guest totalscaf
Personally i have change most of stands over to ladder stands, it's just a little easier, quicker and quieter to get in and out of. Not to mention here in georgia during bow season its still pretty hot and makes for less work.

wildthing
Dick's Sporting Goods (if there are any in your area) sell a 15ft ladder stand made by Comfort Zone that retails on sale for $50-$60 bucks... I own 2 and practice shooting, scout, hunt out of them...
Hoyt03
the ones from walmart and dicks sporting goods work great, will get you up 15ft and are cheap and sturdy. A little tight by the knees, but will get the job done if hung in the right place.
Sask-Hunter
bought a 15 " strong build ladder stand, its already set up in a nice funnel to feilds where i have been seeing nice bucks, actually walking through the bush we jumped a 160+ class buck..these ladder stands are a ton easier to set up;)
Missed160
I love ladders, a bit bulkier to get to a spot, but once you are there, they a awesome. Easy to set up & easy to get in & out of.. Like everyone else I haven't had any issues with deer spooking because of the ladder portion. Last year I rattled in a small eight pointiner, he stood within 3 feet of the base of my ladder.. It was cool.
Dogg6
I've been using them for nearly 10 years now. All our stands are ladders except 1. We have about 8 different ladders that stay up all year and 2 that we take out each year. I will be getting a 2-man for next year when my starts hunting. A couple years back I was on a morning hunt in early November. I had a nub buck walk through right under the ladder stand. He stopped and licked some of the frost off the ladder. All I could think was, that's gonna hurt if he freezes his tongue to that metal. So, as far as how close they come, I would say within inches. A lot of it has to do with your area and how early you get your stands out. Even after moving a stand we have had deer come within 10 yds that night. They are by far the easiest to use. We have purchased our for anywhere between $45 to $160, they are well worth the money.
