SaskBrute
i was wondering how high should a stand actually be? wat do u think deer would be more attracted to oats, corn, granulated salt, apples and wat would be the best ones to put out ''all of them'' :D
SaskMan
Most of my stands are around 20 feet. As for what to dump, not too sure am sure any would work...but they'll all get you bears too.
Rhino
i was wondering how high should a stand actually be? JMO but it really depends on the setup and cover. As far as treestands go, this year mine range from 12' to 26'. The 12' stand is in a tree covered in vines with shooting holes through the vines. Looks like a natural blind in a tree and that's as high as I could go in it and still shoot a bow. If cover is virtually unavailable at the setup, I prefer to be at least 18' to 20' in the tree and then try to use a tree that will break up my silhouette. I agree with Rhino but most of the time I am between 15 and 25 ft
Guest bowhunter56
I shoot off a platform at the club i belong to, it's 17', so i put my climber up 17', i hang a small rope from the platform of my climber, when the end hanging is just touching the ground i am at 17'
razortec_hunter
i have my stand about 12 - 14 ft off the ground.
Sask-Hunter
I set mine at about 18, the higher you get up the harder your shot is going to be with your bow, im looking for a ladder stand about that too;) oats wont work right now, find good trails from bedding area's to where they are feeding
wtnhunt
Would also have to agree with Rhino here, it really depends on the cover available. I usually hunt from 12-15 feet. My ladder stands are all at 12 feet. I do occasionally go higher with a climber though. Far as your bait question, dont know, really think it would depend on the deer and what they want at that point in time. Think the most attractive of those you mention all the time would likely be apples though as the scent from the apples would likely carry further. BearClaw
I've hunted from a ladder stand the last several years and deer don't seem to mind me at 15 ft. I've had them come right under my stand and look up at me and as long as I didn't move, they just went about their business. (Unfortunately they were does!) I hunt on private ground where you are allowed to put out bait. I use apples. The bears here will find the corn then you have visitors. I even stopped using my feeder but that was because the bears got to it. They don't seem to respond to the apples as much, as far as I can tell. Although if they are hungry I'm sure an apple will do! But I don't use anything sweet because of the bears.

Tominator
It's legal to bait in Ohio, but I've never really done it. One year, however, I had a mess of apples that I wasn't going to eat, so I dumped them by my trail cam, and I had deer in them every night until they were gone. Well over a bushel in 2 or 3 days.
