Thermacell Any Users Here ?

Been seeing this on TV for a while now and was considering getting one as I have one stand I like but the bugs are killer. Has anyone used ine does it really work ?

Just bought 1 a couple of days ago. I've talked to several different hunters and they say that they do work. So I broke down and bought one. I'll let ya know how it does in a few weeks:D

You made a good purchase.

Just follow the directions and lay it flat on the floor of your stand.

It won't smell up the place and won't alert the deer.

Wait until you get into your stand before firing it up, because it won't do any good while you are walking in.

I have only used mine one season and still wonder how I got by without it.

Be careful using it in an enclosed blind.

One of my friends used his while he was fishing for brem and it killed all the crickets he was using for bait.

Awesome unit, been using one now for the last few turkey seasons. They also make a "Therma-Scent" unit for deer hunting. Very similar to the Therma-Cell, but comes with a scent pad adapter and several cotton pads for liguid scents. I now believe that you can just but the Therma-Scent kit, instead of buying another unit itself.

The smoke or odor it gives off will not spook game. The Therma-Cell unit comes with three scent pads and a Butane bottle. The bottle will last for approx 12 hrs, and the pads are rated for 4 hrs apiece. here's a web site that sells refill kits as well and holsters for your unit. I highly suggest getting a holster, it will hold an extra Butane bottle and several extra scent pads as well. Nothing worse than running out of fuel while hunting in the spring woods!!

I have used mine for the last 2 spring Turkey seasons and love it! I will not go turkey hunting with out it.

Just pickedone up today, along with the holseter and a pack of refills! can't wait to use it. i just bought the olive drab colored one, didn't need to spend the extra $10 or so for the camo, especially since no one was going to see it with it being in the holster.

Best piece of deer hunting equipment I have ever bought, hands down. Especially if you hunt down South where the mosquitoes (NC State Bird ) are usually around all the way through bow season. You will not be dissapointed. It never leaves my pack!

What about the wind? How effective is it when there is a breeze?

We lived by them in alaska. It was windy alot of the time and had no problems. I bow hunt with mine also and its awsoem

I have used mine for bear hunting deer and turkey hunts............works awesome and the wind doesn't bother it.........besides if it is windy the skeeters generally aren't out.

I hunt in the Mississippi river swamps here in MS and LA and my works great. If there is a breeze put it on the upwind side of you. It will still work good. Two things, dont try to reuse an opened wafer, it will burn due to being dried out and will have a burnt scent. Also the wafers I have tried to used that were bought the previous year were dried out also and when I used them, they burned.

The vast majority of the guys who came through the

" Milk River Outfitters " last year in the early season were using them with very good results. The mosquito's up there in Mt. are SCARY HUGE!

They work fine with a small breeze. I have not had to use it with any signigicant ( 10 mph or higher ) since i hunt in a treestand and the misquitos stay closer to the ground during wind. It says it works a 15' radius and that may be true duing a completely calm morning, but i noticed it worked more like a 8 to 10 feet radius. Still plenty enough to keep them off me. It was fun when i was hunting a swamp area and could actually see where the outer limit of the thermocell was at. Looked like a wall. LOL.

whats an average price for these? cabelas has the camo one for 29.99 and the green for 21.99 i believe, but i noticed cabelas being higher priced on things before

Greatest hunting equipment ever

I was hunting with a buddy of mine down in SC 3 years ago and it was still warm and the bugs were thick. He had a "Therm-a-seal", pronounced a little different when you hunt with guys from the deep woods of South Carolina, but after I saw how good his kept the bugs away, I went out bought one and will never set foot in the woods without mine in my pack. Make sure you purchase new pads before the season, unused pads can dry out after sometime.

Been using one since last springs turkey season. Does a heck of a job on those skeeters and the rest of the biting bugs. It does work in a light breeze, but in a heavier breeze, the bugs can't be around too much either.

As Magnolia said, don't try to re use the wafer cards. Fresh ones work MUCH better.

Be aware that, the way it works is; in a butane cartridge burns under a scented wafer. The unit does get hot and needs to be in a vented place for that reason.
