Was at a local sportmans today and was taking a look at the CVA Elkhorn and the Knight Bighorn, just wondering if anyone has any comments or suggestions with either muzzleloader?

D I have a Knight Bighorn and have used it now for a couple of years. I started out using the 240 gr XTP bullets and got good accuracy. I then tried some heavier ones and ended up with the 300 gr XTP and accuracy is very good. On a good day I can put three shots under an inch. My bighorn came with two nipples, i for #11 and the other for musket caps. I use the musket cap nipple. I have killed 3 deer with mine and am very pleased with it. I am not partial to CVA rifles.

What experiences have you had with CVA's?

Of the two you mentioned, I'd definitely go with the Knight. I owned a Knight for years before getting an Encore and it was a very good rifle. I have never liked CVA as to me they all seem what I call "Clunky." What I mean is they just don't feel right to me and seem kinda cheesy. So if your decision lies between those two, I'd definitely go Knight. If you might consider other brands, and are wanting only a muzzle loader, then I'd go with an Omega. Good luck!

DBaker I borrowed a CVA for my son it was a flintlock. We could not get it to go off no matter what we tried. NOTE to self do not ignite the pan powder with a match held in the fingers. My son-in-law showed me his new CVA inline. While we were getting ready for season his rifle trigger locked up and would not work. He returned it to Cabelas and bought another model of CVA we were in a rush to get home so he did not open the box till we got home. The butt stock was very very loose. The front sight had fallen off too.
