Guest KyKboss
I'd been hearing people say that they'd been finding deer dead near water, so thought i'd better check my lease. Sure enough i found two does dead on the creek bank and young eight point dead by my pond. It was a very depressing sight. I'm afraid if we don't get some rain soon here in south west KY it's only get worse. All the stagnant water is perfect breeding ground for bacteria and disease. Tominator
Just read in the paper today about outbreaks of epizootic hemorragic disease in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana.

razortec_hunter
so not cool who would do that nobody did it. it's just because there isn't enough rain and the deer are dieing of thirst and disease because the water is just stagnant and just sitting there
wtnhunt
Heard that the drought conditions in Tennessee have made for this year being a very bad year for ehd. Have not found any dead deer here along the river though.

MUDRUNNER
We had a bad outbreak of Blue Tongue(not sure what the scientific name is) two years ago.I believe it's cause from black flies getting in the deers noses or something like that.It makes their tongue swell up and mouth dry up before they die, that's why they are usually found near water. wtnhunt
We had a bad outbreak of Blue Tongue(not sure what the scientific name is) two years ago. Blue tongue is comparable to ehd. Both are caused by parasites(biting flies or gnats), here is a good link for anyone interested http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10370_12150_12220-26647--,00.html

buckbuster11
They have found 50-100 dead deer in the southwest corner of PA in the last week or so. Last I heard they thought it was from parasites but were not 100% sure.
Guest totalscaf
Haven't saw any dead but on my land here in georgia we have 2 of our main creeks that are almost completely dry and all if the small creeks have been gone for several months. I think I heard that we are 16 1/2" behind on rain.
hoytbowhunter
Isn't it a sign of CWD when deer are found dead near water?
wtnhunt
Isn't it a sign of CWD when deer are found dead near water? Deer found dead near water is most often a sign of blue tongue from what i have read over the years. Have heard also that deer are found dead near water with ehd, but I have not ever heard that link with cwd.
Turkeygirl
Wow, doesn't sound good. What a shame...Thankfully all I've seen are dead fawns on the side of the road driving to school the last couple days. I've even seen some run across the road mid-day...go figure. MUDRUNNER
A buddy at work has a few deer out at his farm and two of them are in bad shape and probably won't make it from blue tongue. It's some nasty stuff. He lost one last year from it also. Buckslayer
Read yesterday afternoon that the 100 deer dead in PA are all from EHD... We need a frost! That'll stop those biting midges! Forgot to mention that was on the PGC Press Releases website.
Guest Turkey_Turd
sounds like ehd to me.

Guest newhunter07
Hey Shockwave, Thanks for the link, I was completely unaware of anything like that happening in Michigan. I am going to be keeping my eyes open while at my hunting grounds.
wildthing
EHD or Blue Tongue as it is commonly referred to, is in the SW PA, WVA areas. I live about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, very near Steubenville, OHIO, and places like New Cumberland, WVA... There have been hundreds of near found dead in my area!! Not good at all!! The disease is spread by a midge or flea-like bug...not deer to deer!
