Gold Tip Choice?

I've talked to several people about a good new arrow this spring. I'm thinking about Carbon Express, because Gold Tip is just too "unsure" for my liking.

I want an arrow about 375-380 grains. With a wrap and everything, a CX300 would be right about 375 grains. And, I'm solidly in the 300 range.

I would want to use 55/75 Gold Tip Pro Hunters. My draw weight is 70 pounds, length is 28" and arrow length is about 27 1/2" down to maybe 27 1/8" or 27 1/4". With a 100 grain head, I'm in the 55/75 range, but on the edge of being able to use 75/95's too.

Several people have told me that I would be better off to go with 75/95's, but I don't really want to go that high with draw weight. What do you think? I'm I too border line to go with 55/75's? I might see if I can get a 1/2 dozen of all 75/95's just to see how they perform and chrono them. I'm trying to acheive 270 FPS or better. Would like to get 275-280 really. grin.gif

Re: Gold Tip Choice?

if you cut the arrow down to 27 1/2 inches i think you will be just fine with the 5575. Maybe J.B. will see this and run you in his program and see where you stand.

I'm actually on the borderline shooting the 3555 or 5575. i chose the 3555 with an 85 grain head for the extra speed. I don't think I will have a penetration problem at all.

good luck

Re: Gold Tip Choice?

Funny you should talk abot this Chrud. i was in my local proshop just Thursday, and was told by them that the Gold Tips had a "weaker" spine than some other brand arrows. They told me that if they are borderline on the recommended weight for the arrow, ie, 55/75 75/95, they always go up one, meaning the 75/95's hope this makes sense.

Re: Gold Tip Choice?

After going through this with J.B. awhile back and was unsure of the shaft size for my Alpine I contacted them and they assured me along with GoldTip that the 5575 shafts were ok for my bow specs, and a poundage of 62lbs. and just to be sure and inspect my shafts frequently for fraeing and cracking. I don't find GoldTips to subpar to any other shaft manufacturer..

[ QUOTE ]

gold tips run weak when using a 100 grain or higher and being borderline

especially with shaft lengths of 28" or more and draw lengths of 29" or more

by saying weak, we don't refer to breakage...just a little too much "flex" in them for the arrow to attain good stabilization....

I knew J.B. could explain it better than me..LOL..THANKS J.B. smile.gif

Re: Gold Tip Choice?

Todd, I have started using Oklahoma Archery, I-35 and Grand. Won't step foot in Tabe's ever again, guy does know his stuff, but I just don't care for that arrogant attitude. He started me on the 3555's when I bought my bow there, but have since moved to 5575.
