RWTaxidermy Posted August 29, 2007 Report Share Posted August 29, 2007 I just purchased a 2007 Bowtech Tribute about 4 weeks ago "SWEET BOW", 30" draw @ 65lbs , I am currantly shooting a total arrow weight of 384 g.p.i. and I would like to go a little lighter, possibly closer to 330 g.p.i. , my question is in arrow drop, I am currently getting about a 10" drop at 30yrds compared to 20yrds. will shooting an arrow that is 48 g.p.i. lighter enable me to get a flatter trajectory downrange so I can shoot 1 pin out to 30 yrds? Here is the arrows I am shooting now: Gold Tip Exp Hunter 29"x 8.2 = 237.8 blazer double locks nock = 9.0 blazer 2" vanes x3 = 15.0 wraps = 8.0 ? GT series inserts = 15.0 100 gr. broadhead = 100.0 ----------------- total weight 384.8 g.p.i. Here is what I am thinking about going to: Gold tip Ultra Light Pro 29"x 7.4 = 215.0 blazer double locks nock = 9.0 blazer 2" vanes x3 = 15.0 wraps = 8.0 ? bwlacy Posted August 31, 2007 Report Share Posted August 31, 2007 I think that 384 grains is already pretty light. Too answer your question yes going 48 grains lighter will be faster and flatter. But it's a trade off, you will lose something also. I don't know what kind of tune you have. I have not seen, or shot a bow that drops 10 inches from 20 to 30 yards in a long time. I am shooting around 260 fps and only have a couple inches of drop from 20 to 30. With that light of an arrow you should be shooting faster than that I would think. Buckslayer Posted August 31, 2007 Report Share Posted August 31, 2007 Yeah I have the 07 guardian, shooting close to the same speed and weight as you and I only have about 3 inches difference in that distance. Is it possible your heads are planing because your bow is not tuned well enough? Hope you work it out. I shoot 35 with a 2" window @ 62" w/ 316 gr. arrow @ 316fps You should be way under a 10" window. between 20 and 30. I looked at everything possible that I thought might be the culprit, however after a tournament shoot a guy that was shooting with us said he noticed a bit of flight disturbance in my arrows at about 25yrds. I shoot a Vapor Trail Limb Driver rest on my bow so therefore we ruled out the rest, what we did find was a slight tuning problem in my arrows, one vane was making conact with my cables, we turned the nock slightly and shot 3 rounds to find this was the culprit. Now back to 1 pin @30 yrds with about a 2" window between 20 and 30. Thanks to everyone who replied. And GOOD LUCK HUNTING!! Season opens here Oct.1 ,cant wait. Shooting an older pse fireflight 33 with a 30inch draw and 70 lb draw weight, and the minimum arrow total weight is like 420 grains. Good you found out your problem. Good thinking wtn, an underspined arrow being pushed like that could give you the carbon through the arm syndrome we've all seen pics of... eeek:eek: Not to mention tuning problems downrange.
