Guest littlered
how much farther can you shoot a 3 1/2 than a 2 3/4 sabbot thanks
lil hunter
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot I doubt it would be much different. But it all depends on the shooter.
AJ
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot I guess it will depend on what angle you have the barrel. Actually, the shooter has more to do with it than the ammo does. Nitro Company's 3.5" slug is only 50 fps faster than teh 3" and it uses the same size slug. So there is basically no difference in performance.
Guest littlered
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot do you think it would be smarter and cheaper to go with the 2 3/4" or 3" over the 3 1/2"
AJ
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot Oh yeah! And a lot less painful. Personally, I prefer 2 3/4" slugs. In my experience they typically shoot the best (not every time, but most) and they kick a lot less.
njbowhntr
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot I have shot the 2 3/4" and the 3" slugs out of my slug gun. I get better accuracy and distance out of my 2 3/4" slugs. And it is cheaper to shot the 2 3/4" also.
too_pointer
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot I agree on the 2 3/4". I am using a 3" right now, but that is a first time that a 3" shot as well for me as the 2 3/4". It seems all slugs kick you hard, but the 2 3/4 is certainly the friendliest of the bunch too_pointer
carbonhunter
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot If they all shoot the same weight slug what is the advatage of one over the other??
AJ
Re: Distance of a 3 1/2 inch sabbot [ QUOTE ] If they all shoot the same weight slug what is the advatage of one over the other?? [/ QUOTE ] Usually speed. Check out Remington's slug ballistics. They don't even offer a premium 3" slug. Winchester offers both 2 3/4" and 3" in all but their Platinum Tip sabot. Federal offers both 2 3/4" and 3" in their line. Lightfield on the other hand does offer a bit of a performance increase with their Commander IDS slug. In the 3.5" load, it has a 100 fps advantage over the 3" load. But compare these to the 16 ga load. Down range there is not a huge difference. This is due to the aerodynamics, or lack there of.
