Ive been eyeballing new ML'ers this week. I didn't know how much I wanted to spend so I left my options open.

We have a one week season in Okieland for Whitetail. Other than that I only drag my ML'er out about twice a years for plinking. I really cant justify a $650 ML'er but buying a $350 isn't out of the question.

I ran to Walmart fall apart during lunch. I noticed they had ML'ers in even though they have quit carrying rifles in most stores. I had them hand me the nickle barrels. I dont much care for the blued, pit to easily.

Anyway, I ended up picking up a CVA Optima, .50cal, MO Thumbhole stock, Nickle Plated for $229. It came to $249 with tax. Not a bad buy! It felt really good and no more than Ill plink with it the price was right! Im not sure if they are selling them all over at that price but for the money I thought it was a great purchase! I have a 3x9x40 Leupold laying in a drawer at the house. I guess ill slap it on and see what happens! ;) Ill get pics up after I get her all together.

my dad got an optima last year and its a nice ML in my opinion. nice shooting and the recoil isn't too bad either. i bought a cheap ml from cabelas a few years back to see how i liked ml hunting. i think it was a beartooth mag or something. kicks like a mule!!!! i shot the same powder charge and bullet out of dads optima and i bet the recoil was half! that was my second choice in ml's. i went with the traditions xlt extreme and havent got it yet. its on back order:(:D

Sounds like a good deal Jeramie...had a friend call me just last week, he live up in the U.P. and he wanted to know if they were good guns, he said wal-mart up there had the nickell/black with the regular stock for (i think) $189...I told him he better buy it :)....he called me the next day and told me he ended up getting it...so now i have to make a trip up to his 40 acres during our muzzleloader season

Good luck with you new gun! they are a "blast" lol

I bought an optima the first year they came out, mine is a 50 cal. nickel barrel with the black stock. I just got the magnum version, not the pro with the longer barrel and the fluting. I topped it off with their scope mounts and a cheap tasco 3x9x40 walmart scope (30 bucks) and have shot 5 or six deer with it since. I shoot 230 or 240 grain bullets and 2 triple seven pellets out of it, and I keep her dead on at 130 yards. I shot a 160 gross class 10 pointer with it at 226 yards (confirmed with laser rangefinder later that day), and dropped him in his tracks. I did not realise he was that far as I was shooting across an open field and misjudged the distance by 50 yards. I know the optima isnt as fancy as the encore but it does do its job and it will put venison on the table every bit as good as the more expensive guns. I woudlnt part with mine for the world. You got a great buy!
