Something to debate

First I was wondering exactly where we needed to put this thread – The Lounge maybe but I can see it getting moved to another forum because some of the moderators up there don’t have the capability to think very deep much less debate something.

I was going to put it in the Political Forum but it’s not really political material and I really didn’t want to put it here in the Spiritual Camp because I didn’t’ want someone getting their thong in a wad and bringing down a sermon on me but hey, it fits here more than anywhere.

Hypothetical Situation

Someone decides to build a Bar in some town USA and while building this Bar he generates the interest of the local church. The church members begin to picket the building site with all kinds of signs and literature about how drinking is wrong (probably a Baptist church) and that the members along with the rest of the township need to pray that the Bar doesn’t get built.

Low and behold, a few weeks before the grand opening, a lighting bolt strikes the establishment and it burns to the ground and the church members rejoice and are smug about the whole thing until the bar owner sued the church, saying that the church was either directly or indirectly responsible for his building being burned down.

Debate time

If the church denies any responsibility, are they confessing that they have no belief in prayer?

Since the Bar owner did sue citing that the church was responsible, is he confessing that he does believe in prayer?

Ok so let’s end this with one general understanding – this is something to debate, something to lightly discuss and nothing that you or I need to get our panties in a wad about.

No, I didn’t really mean that the moderators didn’t know how to debate and no, I’m not taking a jab at the Baptist either. All I’m doing is trying to get past copy and paste threads that no one really responds to.

Y'all have a nice day....

The bible says that the rain will fall on the just as well as the unjust. Meaning that everyone has the same chances that something in nature may happen to them, good or bad.

I'm sure if it were a baptist church like mine:D they would have prayed that the owner come to Christ and build a Christian Bookstore rather than a bar, not to have harm come to him or his property.;)

There is no grounds for a lawsuit if good comes to someone.

I like your answer John ;) I'd be praying for their salvation too.

But just for the sake of the thread subject and contents....LOL..

Whatever supernatural power caused the lightning to strike the bar and burn it down, can not be blamed on any man's prayers. The bar owner would have to sue God, not the believer who prayed. :D To sue a human being who prayed for such a thing, would be saying that they had the power to do such a thing all by themselves, without any outside help. .:D

Wow, that's pretty cool! So what happened? Tell us "the rest of the story...."

Trae

Actually, this is an "Urban Myth" for the most part - no known origin or facts to rebut it or to confirm it. But as it’s told, as the case made it's way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the hearing and commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paper work, we have a bar owner that believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that doesn't.

Simply stated – by the congregation denial of having “anything” to do with it, wouldn’t they indeed be confessing to not believing in prayer?

I mean, if you prayed for rain during a drought and it finally did rain, has your prayer been answered or is it simply an act of God? If you’re answer is it’s simply an act of God, then do you really believe in the power of prayer? If you said “your prayers have been answered, then you admit to asking for it to happen and believing it would.

Now where the heck am I going with this? Well, in a society today that is all to willing to slap a law suit on anyone or anything, can you see this actually happening?

Further more, if it did and it happened to you, would you be willing to admit you prayed for it and it came true – making you somewhat responsible for the damages? Please – do not answer that question here, I don’t know and I don’t care – to each his own and should remain his own.

All this was is just something to ponder – more like the chicken and the egg thing.

Whether they denied praying or confessed to praying for that specific thing to happen, is still no fault of theirs, since God himself could have denied their petition, just as easily as grant it.

They have to sue God, and God alone. :D Good luck :D
