wtnhunt
I tried the american pioneer powder(shocky's gold) last year before season opened up here and was not at all happy with it. Back to pyrodex loose powder for me for now.
WABS
Remember black powder and its substitutes are all measured by volume. Therefore basically you want to stay with the same amount. 90 grains is 90 grains...having said that 777 tends to be a little hotter (approximately 10%). Therefore if you were going to try to use Shocky's Gold I'd bump it up to 100 grains and see what that gets you. I've always liked Pyrodex RS Select so that's what I use in all of my hunting weapons. However I do have other types of powder (Shocky's isn't one of them) that I use when I shoot my numerous other black powder guns for fun. Guest trackerman64
stick with the 777, i have tried the shockeys loose and sticks in all my muzzleloaders and was not real impressed, it really does not like powerbelts for one, which i do not care for either, but if you like the ease of loading the powerbelts the shockeys is not for you unless you want to run a 300 gr bullet, the sticks require very high barrel pressure to get a full burn and the powerbelts have a hard time creating the pressure needed,, the loose shockeys was ok but the 777 seems to outperform it in most of my guns, i personally am a pyrodex fan, yes it is a bit dirtier and more corosive but if you clean your gun properly good old loose pyrodex is very consistent and has never let me down

PotashRLS
I'm very happy with American Pioneer Powder out of my TC Encore. Very accurate with both 100 and 150 gr charges, but mostly shoot 100 gr. My Encore also likes the 295 gr Powerbelts. The American Pioneer Powder is noticeably less fouling than the 777 and Pyrodex I used to shoot.
Adjam5
I bought it last year($21.99/1 lb) to use with my T/C Thunder hawk, which only likes powdered propellant. To try something different than pyrodex RS. I got inconsistent velocities from Shockeys Gold FFG using 90-125 grs with 300gr Maxi hunter bullets. It did not shoot well in the T/C or the CVA that I put it through. Both take 209 primers. It is sitting in the back of the powder cabinet. I am sticking with Pyrodex RS for the T/C and 777 for the CVA.
Guest bow_hunter101
I like Jim Shockey, but I'm sticking with 777!
