How'd the squirrel hunters do?

Anyone go out squirrel hunting this morning? I got up about 7am. Hit the woods and saw one first thing...except it was on the land I don't hunt, just cross to the land I do hunt, so he had no worries:rolleyes: So I make my way down into a hardwoods swamp bottom and geesh, I heard no nuts dropping out of trees...lots of woodpeckers, but no gray squirrels. Finally I catch a grey squirrel on the ground, on this bank on the other sideo f a small stream. I wait, he disappears down the bank then pops back up. About 10 yards and BOOM! Squirrel down:D A very nice female I might add...nice tail and one of those warble larva on her skin. That was the only other squirrel I saw/heard. Weird morning.....I did see a little 4 or 6 point buck cross the field to bedi n some pines. Then I go out to the top of the old gravel pit where I used to listen to the turkeys in the spring and I saw a beautiful sight! A flock of about 10 turkeys in the field edge going over into the farm land I hunt...towards the corn field where I shot my jake. I think it was the flock of poults I saw back at the end of turkey season. Woohooo I am happy! Turkeys are coming back on this land:)

Just have to wait for an entry thread to post my entry.;)

missed one about 30 yards away with the 22 and then had 3 others give me the slip while i was putting on the stalk. shot a little more to recheck my zero. it was shooting a tad low at 30 yards. so i made the adjustment.;)

saw 5 deer and 3 turkeys. its amazing how just being out is so much fun, relaxing and good for the soul.. i will be going out monday morning. im headed to Bass Pro shops in Council Bluffs today.:D

Congrats Ruth. Moon and I have a later start - his later than mine. I'll have to wait until Sept 15 but we'll catch up.

Saw the craziest thing at an Alabama rest stop on our trip. There was a gray squirrel under this picnic table. The was flat out on his belly eating a nut/acorn or something. I thought he was hurt or sick at first but when I walked toward him he scurried off only half convinced I posed any danger. Only thing I could figure was he was cooling himself in the shade on the cooler cement. It was, oh, "only" about 96 degrees that day.

I drilled two this morning....skinned them quick due to the heat, but I saved the entire hide for pics......hopefully I can find my camera...lol............two nice fox squirrel females......one was at 15 yards, and the other was at a good 125 plus.....the 17hmr with the red tip entered the front leg on one side, and blew the other leg completely off......this is the first one I hadn't shot in the head with the 17hmr......but do to the distance, I decided on the heart and lungs.......I wont make that mistake again........the skeeters chased me out of the woods by 9....I have bites on my eyelids, lips, and inner ears.....I think they licked the OFF spray right off me...lol..............aal
