lil hunter
I haven't gotten out huntin myself yet. Haven't really found any doves to hunt. Saturday I helped out at a youth dove hunt put on by Waterfowl USA. 69 kids came out and killed over 550 birds.

Texan_Til_I_Die
I made the 4 hour drive out to the ranch I hunt in west Texas, planning to hunt for 4 days. I came back yesterday instead. 3 weeks ago there were literally thousands of doves working the 600 acres of sunflowers, then it rained 6 inches and now there aren't enough left to make a batch of gravy. Guess I'll give it a couple of weeks to dry out then try it again. Meanwhile, I've got a few places around home I can try.

bozz
We ended up going to Spring Valley and were the # 2 lotto number called......there were 160 people there and only half got drawn we felt lucky, the next day we lotto again with fewer people but there were fewer birds too. I have seen better years out there where you could limit out the first 3 days because of all the birds, it wasn't bad just not as good as last year which was crazy and much cooler and they flew all day.........this year they did not fly till 4 or later. We kind of experienced the same thing. Steady birds on Saturday, but very sparse Sunday. Maybe that little front that moved through pushed them south. Going out tomorrow after school, we'll see what happens.
bozz
Son and I popped 5 last night in my field. Yeah I hear ya, hopefully a cool front will push some through later on and we'll get back out and catch more action, got to find that place first. How old is your boy ? How old is your boy ? 13. He hunted a little last year with the .410, but he's happy he can handle the 20 gauge this year. A lot less frustrating. I must say he's a pretty decent wingshot. He's only missed 3 or 4 birds. Son #2 tried the .410 this year, but the stock is still a bit long for him.

Tominator
I got 8 last night. Birds are beginning to get spooky. They were not really committing to the deeks like they did last week. Headed out tomorrow morning, hopefully this front that's moving in will bring down some birds. Temps in the 90's all week, down to the 70's next week, so I'm hoping it will move some fresh birds down from that state up north where they can't hunt doves. Sorry, bad joke. Hardwood_HD
i went out for a few this evening and got one more.. i might have a meal in a couple week lol!!
nemodeerhuntersneighbor
The second morning was the only day I had a chance to go. I killed 8 on about 4 acres of sunflowers. The reports I have been hearing has been pretty poor. One guy I know that hunts on the mississippi river said that it was the worst opening weekend they have had in the 30 yrs they have been hunting this spot. Conservation says the numbers are down this year b/c of a very poor hatch. But our archery season starts sep. 15th so I have bigger and better things on my mind!! Guest bowhuntr_15
Oklahoma season opened up Sept. 1st so me and 4 buddies went out the opening morning and all limited out (75 birds). It was a blast, then went out the next morning and only killed 28 but still had fun out in the woods with buddies.
bozz
i went out for a few this evening and got one more.. i might have a meal in a couple week lol!! I know your pain,....lol...... its hard to find birds now here too on private land. My Tent blind chair below sure came in handy on those hot days in the sunflower fields, it provided some much needed shade.
Tominator
Aggravating day for me today. My buddy's son and his buddy were doing some major sky busting. The one kid was shooting at birds that were easily 80 to 90 yards away! I never had a chance, birds are getting really spooky. Ended up with 2 with 2 lost ones.
