preacherman
My 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab is in need of a new set of tires. I have checked alignment and rotated and balanced the tires that are on there as I was supposed to; but at 27,000 miles they are worn out. The insides of the tires are totally bald, so it is time for a new set. I talked with the dealership where I bought the truck, because I thought 27,000 was a little quick for a set to wear out; but they wouldn't do anything for me. So, it is time to look. So, here is my question. Any recommendations on a good set of 245/70/17's? Would you put all terain tires on it or keep the "street" tread tires on it. It is not a 4wd. Also, what can I expect to pay for a set of tires. Thanks in advance. Scott
VermontHunter
Scott, there are so many good tires out there to choose from... but this is the one I run on my Chevy ... http://www.coopertire.com/html/products/tires_lighttruck.aspx?page=discoverer_atr I paid around $85 a tire mounted and balanced.. RangerClay
Yep! Coopers are a good tire for the money.
Mach1
Not to try to hijack the thread, but my F150 currently has P255/70/17s on it from the factory. Can I put on 265/70/17s on it without having to modify anything? And how would those tires change anything, such as gas mileage, speedometer reading, etc.? I've been looking at the BFG All-Terrains for my 4x4 and don't think they are made in a 255/70/17, but are made in a LT265/70/17. Thanks. Shaun_300
I'd go with either Michelin or BFGoodrich. The Michelin LTX's are an awesome tire, fairly expensive up here but well worth the money. I also like the BFG All terrain, they're also a great tire and look even better! Guest Finn
I'd contact the tire manufacturer to see what they will do
Smitteken
BFGs are awesome tires that have fantastic wear. But they are pricey. And its nice to go with the all-terrain for a little extra grip in wet conditions. Mach 1, You shouldn't have a problem with the 265s. I had a 97 F-150 that I put 275's on and had no problems. It did mess up my speedometer a little but you can get that re-calibrated if you have to.
HarvDog
I roll with Michelin LTX's. Great tires!!!
wtnhunt
I roll with Michelin LTX's. Great tires!!! The Michelin's are good tires but are pretty expensive. Put them on two different trucks over the past, and got good life, and a good ride from them. Seems my fuel efficiency was also somewhat better. Have goodyears on both our truck and yukon now, they are ok.

Ravin R10 man
Dont you dare put on a set of WRANGLERS!! I use Sport King A/T..think cooper makes them?? Ive been getting 40,000 on a set without a flat!! you could get away with street tires if you dont drive in snow..
archerjg
I prefer Goodyear tires, but I am running a set of bridgestone dueler revo's on my 2000 2wd. I do alot of off road on the farms that we work and so far these tires have done great. I have been through mud and snow without a problem. I have 20,000 on them now and they hardly look worn. I should have no problem getting another 20,000 + out of them. Archerjg

I have checked alignment and rotated and balanced the tires that are on there as I was supposed to; but at 27,000 miles they are worn out. I talked to my brother-in-law over the weekend and he has a 2006 4-Runner and told me he'll be doing good to get 30k out of his tires. This is SAD! My 2003 Tahoe Z71 has the original tires on it and I'm just about to turn 70k....don't get me wrong, they need replacing and I'll replace them sometime this month but guys, I got double what y'all did. I'll be replacing them with the same thing that's on it - Goodyear Wranglers. They are about the most expensive but if you can get that mileage out 'em.....it's a no-brainer. Ravin R10 man
sorry Parrett...all I ever had with Wranglers were flats...I would not bring a vehicle home with those on it.
