Brad6639
Ive seen it done with the double bull blinds a lot, so i know it can be done. I have a ground max eclipse ground blind that I got this spring. I am going to be doing a ton of bowhunting this year, so I want to do a lot of it out of this blind as I just discovered some public hunting ground that dosent get much pressure from others from what Ive seen. I have seen some real mosters so I know they are there. Ive never bowhunted from a fully enclosed ground blind for deer before, so do you have to brush them in a lot, or can you get by with them out in the open in the woods. It has a good camo pattern, similar to realtree but not quite as nice. I had it on the edge of a field this past spring for turkey and had a doe come by at 7 yards, she blew off but I think it was due to scent as she did hang around for awhile. I had the back windows clsoed so she couldnt see the "black holes" associated with the windows being open. I have shoot through windows but my bow dosent seem to shoot out of them well, so I am thinking of modifing them with velcro so I can have them up and then a few openings that can be undone with velcro or safety pins etc. if the shot oppotunity arises. I have a summit climber but its heavy so I dont want to carry it as I explore the new land that I found. I also like how you can be set up in 2 minutes ready to hunt and dont have to worry about scent as much as it seems to me that it keeps the scent in the blind fairly well (I do use all the scent control methods though). Do any of you guys have any tips for me to try out? I want to use this as my primary means of bowhunting this year as the ease of use is very nice. maddhunter
I use ground blinds quite often. I have 2 Ameristep blinds. As far as brushing it up, a little is good especially if the timber is open. I like to get close to a brush pile or fallen tree usually will work fine. And for the mesh,What broadheads are you using? You should be able to shoot through it without any problems. Just make sure it is tight. And if you are as serious about makeing it your main method of hunting as you act like, I would recomend getting good blind that has easily adjustable windows and thoot-through mesh. Ameristep offers many different options at affordable prices and are very easy to use.
Guest Guideman
I am an outfitter and I use them effectively and often. Keep the blind sprayed with scent control. If possible, brush it in. The best part of using blinds is the fact that you can adjust your body without ( hopefully ) spooking the Deer. Enjoy your blind and good luck this season. Brad6639
Thanks guys, I was using muzzy mx4's, and they just didnt seem to shoot out well. I just left the windows open for turkeys because I was told a turkey dosent seem to mind the dark holes. With my old blind, I had the blind in the middle of a plowed field and had a tom and 2 hens coming right to me until another hunter scared them away after he left the woods at 9 am! I was told that wih deer, try and brush them in whenever possible. I am alll excited to try it out for whitetails in 1 day and a week. maddhunter
Good luck , the deer really don't mind them around here as long as they blend in. Just use extra scent precation, I use the earth wafers and hang them on the windows for a little added protection. One swirling gust at the wrong time and it's all over. Again GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nativetexan
I plan on using one in the fall. But I called Jersey DNR to verify its use on public lands because the only thing about blinds in the digest is concerning duck hunting. Jersey likes to make the rules as they go anyway. The warden told me it is was legal, but suggested I put some blaze orange on it. Just a thought since it is public land, and if you brush it up, it will make it harder to see for other hunters. Of course, here in Jersey it is all piney woods and very thick.
