hoosierhunter81
The disease EHD (Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease) is killing white-tail deer in southern Indiana. Indiana farmers and hunters are finding dead deer nearby water. Some farmers are finding up to 20 or more dead deer Indiana biologist said. This is caused by a small flying insect called biting midges. They will not die till we get a couple of hard freezes. There will be a significant loss of the deer heard in the counties where the disease has been found according to the wildlife biologist. Hopefully this doesn't take a huge toll on the buck population. We have seen some huge bucks since the one buck rule has been implemented. This sucks but not much we can do about it. wtnhunt
Afraid the deer here are going to be hit hard by it too, have heard that some parts of this state they are finding deer dead related to ehd, but have not heard about any locally yet. Someone told me the drought plays a big role in the ehd being more prevalent in areas. If it is as bad here as I heard of speculations and you add in the new liberal limits our wildlife people have implemented that we are facing this year, our deer herd here is in some serious trouble. Here is a good link with some information on ehd that I posted in another link in this room before http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10370_12150_12220-26647--,00.html

Guest coydog316
Well boys, it is hard to watch here in So.IN but I want to give you all a little something to think about. Kip Adams(QDMA biologist)said that on average EHD only affects 25% of the herd. The deer that come through the disease become immune to it in the following years. I hope that all of us Southern IN boys can get through this next couple of months. I do know one thing though, we are gonna make it through! Check out this new website: www.whiteriverqdma.com, I hope to keep everyone updated on this subject through the next couple of months. wtnhunt
Might check your state's wildlife website. Just found a link to some information for Tennessee that is fairly recent here http://tennessee.gov/twra/news/deermortality.html. From what it says there they are expecting die off rates to 40 percent possible in some areas:(

Guest Shoo
will keep everyone up on pike co. i know this is a natural cycle and may be relatively common in some states, but this is the first time it has hit this early and this hard in our area...hard to stomach seeing deer you have passed on or hunted hard the last few years laying in a ditch rotting... buffett1
I took a long tour around our family ground I hunt in Daviess Country (near the Glendale FWA) and came across a nice deer in one of the ponds we have. I too have heard of many other deer being located in similar situations. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the seasons too much.
